Accessor methods in Java

If I have a java Map, and one of the types is an object of another class, how do I use accessor methods to access the instance variables of that object to alter them? I know I have to use 'get' but can't work out how to reference it otherwise. Thanks anyone who can help...I'm tearing my hair out here!
