Crikey! How would you react if you were the wife?

Reminds me of a short story by Edgar Allen Poe.
I imagine the first things the wife felt, were shock and disbelief. That'd give way to RElief - but if she's got any sense, she'll tell the guy to get lost (again!). Either he was under terrible stress or had some illness, or he faked his disappearance for personal reasons. Whatever, he was unstable at the time of his disappearance, and therefore you couldn't trust him not to do it again. After all the anguish that his wife must've been through - presumably - I could never forgive a man who did that to me.

I did a similar thing to a loved one. Didn't fake death but did just 'disappear' for a while, I think a private detective was put on to find out where I was. Was never forgiven and the (longterm) relationship shattered around the event. But I think that was maybe my intention (shrugs).
