for people who have actually seen the northern ights - is it true that they are better looking on photos than the naked eye?

I love the Northern Lights, never been lucky enough to see them in person, unfortunately.

I didn't see any northern lights in Norway but saw them when we on a river boat on a huge lake in Russia (the size of of a sea) they were  spectacular!!
