When is it exactly? I have taken the decorations down but not put them away. Assuming I am superstitious, do I need to do that tonight or will tomorrow be within the dreaded deadline.

Twelfth night is the eve of the feast of the Epiphany which is 6th January so tonight is twelfth night.

Down will do, tidy away tomorrow.
I've only just put one of my Christmas cards up!

(That's 'cos it only arrived at lunchtime today, which is actually quite good for the Italian postal system, where it started its journey!)
When was it posted, Chris ?.

Epiphany is the 6th but I'm never sure if 12th night is 5th or 6th, depends if you include Christmas day.
Yes. Xmas Day is the first day of Xmas so counting from there you have Dec 25, 26, 27, 28. 29, 30, 31, Jan 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, twelve days.

Thanks all, I'll put them away now and be done with it. Besides, I have enough to do tomorrow anyway!
As long as they taken down and are turned off, then you will have done your bit.

It may be some time that my nephew can come and put them up in the loft for another year though !

The postmark says 18 December, Tony, but I've learnt to take little notice of Italian postmarks. My friend there has previously sent me a birthday card about three weeks before my birthday, emailing me to let me know that she'd posted it early to allow for the inevitable delays. When my card arrived four weeks later (i.e. a week after my birthday) the postmark said that it had been posted 10 days after it really had.

Italians always moan about their postal system. My friend lives in Trieste and she says that it's best to allow at least a fortnight for a letter to get the other side of the same city, and longer if you want it to reach Rome.

All done and put away.

If I miss anything I have to leave it exactly where it is until next year. 2017 was spent with a robin decoration pegged to an indoor plant all year, and a Christmas candle sat unlit on the bookcase. We had a good year!
Blimey, makes our postal service look good, Chris.
OP, I'm superstitious as well, but was always was taught to take them down on the 5th. Which I have done today and also waited to change my avatar until today.
So sad to take down the cards and decorations even though I managed to fuse every socket in the living room when I attempted to turn on my tiny sparkly Christmas tree
Windows covered with stars, snowflakes, bows, hearts, Christmas trees and reindeer
Might just leave one snowflake
There's always a lingering snowflake Daisy ;-)
We took all of ours down at the end of last week, we were going away for NYE and getting back on 4th so seemed pointless to keep them up, usually they're up until about 3rd as we often host the NYE get-together.

Living on the south coast most years the snowflake on my window is the only one I see
Daisy...
It's lovely warm and cosy up north ... all year round. Xx
