Lots of strong candidates this year with many outstanding performances, who do you think is going to win?

Andy Murray, Bradley Wiggings, Jes Ennis, David Weir, Ellie Simmonds, any I have missed.

My money is on either Bradley or Andy, purely because its been so long since we had a British champion in those sports.

Thank you MarkRae. :)
Did Ginny not win the French as well?

Way too difficult to call a winner this year.
Lance Armstrong ?
John Terry (who is for some reason listed by one of the bookies) has more chance than Lance Armstrong, simply because he's British (or is it UKish)
If Terry wins we are doomed as a country.

You mean Lance Armstrong, Winner of the Overseas award in 2003? Maybe they'll take it back this year ...
John Terry? Highly unlikely IMO
Did Ginny not win the French as well?

Typical me, she won everything but the French.

I knew she had previous as a quiz machine asked what decade she won her first major in and I (wrongly) answered the Seventies.
Got to be Bradley Wiggins for me - hands down. 1st Brit ever to win the Tour De France and Gold at the Olympics within a few weeks of each other.
I'm afraid i can also remember Ann Jones winning Wimbledon as well (just about!) British in particular British male lack of success in Grand Slams is staggering, when you think that since the days of Fred Perry and Bunny Austin we didn't even have a single finalist in any event until comparatively recent years.
It's now 36 years since an Australian won the Australian Open, which is also quite surprising.
Fear not about John Terry: he'd need to be on the BBC shortlist, and I really cannot see ...
It's hard to argue with that, but there are so many with excellent cases that it is hard to argue with any of them.

I'd hate to be forced to pick this year's winner.
Teamgb..as a BIG winner
So you're excluding the NI medallists?
TeamGB for the team of the year award definitely murraymints. The individual award is far too difficult to predict. I too was thinking Wiggo until last night. Now Andy has to be in the running, he's done so well this year and last night was the icing on the cake. But then there were so many amazing Olympic and Paralympic performances too. I don't envy those selecting the short list. All I can say is that if any footballers feature it will be a disgrace!
Who cares who wins the award?

I lost all respect for the award the year Ryan Giggs won it after he was past his best and had only had an average season for ManU

I thought it was supposed to be an award for sporting achievements over the year, not a popularity contest
It's voted for by the general public, and if the majority wanted Ryan Giggs so be it.
I am sure the BBC are mighty relieved that it IS voted for by the public, because - particularly this year - it would otherwise be hugely controversial with so many deserving cases.
My predictions
Team of the Year - Olympic and Para Olympic Team GB
Best overseas sports person. - CR7
Best Manager - Sir Alex Ferguson
SPOTY - Paul Scholes
I think Ellie Simmonds will, once again, get the Young Sports Personality Of The
Year.
So difficult to name the SPOTY.Could be even money Bradley Wiggins or Andy
Murray.
If the winner is unavailable to receive the award John Terry says he will step up and do the honours
