Why was Bradley Wiggins wearing what looked liked a nasal strip across his nose at the start of the race?

I can only guess, that it was to open his nostrils wider and to improve air flow.It was the vogue a few years ago with certain footballers and rugby league players.

It one has an obstruction in the nose, it MIGHT help, but if your nasal airways are patent, then it is a waste of time.

They were popular with footballers in the nineties, supposedly helping their breathing.I tried them but was still knackered by half-time.
