My old tennants left My house with a lot of debt, They were only in my house a year. Ever since they left i have had nothing but unpaid bills coming through my letter box. I am worried it is going to black list my house, but i`m not sure how it all works. Can someone explain?

You need to make sure that you are sending back all those bills - mark the envelopes - Gone Away, Return to Sender - and put them back in the pillarbox. You don't have to pay to Return to Sender. If you just put them in the bin, the companies won't know that they don't live in your house any more.

Also get a credit check for yourself with a company like Experian, it only costs about £3 (I think you can do it on-line now) - just to make sure that nobody is associating someone else's debts with your address. If it is, when you get the report, you can apply to Experian to get it taken off. You don't want your own credit rating damaged by someone else who is nothing to do with you.
At one time the house would have been blacklisted but now its only the previous tenants that will be blacklisted. I know this because I moved into a property under similar circumstances. Former occupants had run of huge debts with various utility companies, catalogue companies and the like but when I informed these companies that we were new occupants the bills stopped coming and we were able to get credit as and when needed....
I had the same problem...I kept sending all the letters back but they still kept on coming..They even rung my new telephone number and asked for the previous tenant! I knew where she had moved to so after putting up with it for about 2 years I decided to tell them..They then continued writing to her at my adress..In the end my daughter said check your credit rating and it was fine A1..She said now try and buy something online Now bearing in mind I'd never ever ever had any money problems I don't have any HP or debts But when I tried to buy a £30 pair of trousers and was told no! When I rang customer services she couldn't tell me why so I explained about previous tenant she said thats probably it then...So all that about them not factoring in the bad address is just not true - They do look at the address not the name... So Good Luck....
