Player A kicks ahead and the ball lands in the in goal area 1 foot from the touch in goal line (line at the side of the in goal area), Player A runs around the defence and into touch then places his hand on the ball whilst still standing in touch. What is the referees decision?

surely no try if he's standing in touch?
No try, foot in touch.
If an attacking player is in touch or in touch-in-goal, the player can score a try by grounding the ball in the opponents’ in-goal provided the player is not carrying the ball (i.e. downward pressure only).
