When John Gosden said the horse had to be supplemented £75.000 to run in the King George What did that mean?

It means the horse wasn't entered at the first closing date for entries, which was a few months ago but there is a late entry system that is considerably more than the origanal fee. This is called a supplementary entry fee and gosden thought it worth paying as nathaniel has improved greatly since the entries closed. Hope that explains it
Hirse racing, is that legal?
So as a follow-on to callboys reply (apologies to Groupie for the hijack)

Have you any idea what the 'standard' entry fee might be to a high profile race like this?

I know the total purse for the race is £1m (1st gets about £560,000) but surely a vast majority of this might actually be a 'bet' by the owners to get their own money back - along with some from their opponents!!

Just a thought

And to Ratter - groan!!
If a horse wins a Classic Race its stud value rockets. That's where the big money is for racehorse owners
For Puternut
Entries in King George Stakes - 41 paid £3,500; 15 paid £4,500; 1 paid £75,000. These confirmed to race paid £2,000.

So many entered their horses and paid but didn't race.
Thank you Maidup 8-)
