Will you need a door to door visitor to explain to you the different methods of getting around without the use of your car?

Now let's see walk? Run? Skates? Bus? Taxi? Tram? Train? Aeroplane? Boats?

No.

I know where my bus stop is. I don't use buses because they are late, crowded, slow, go round the houses, and generally provide a horrible travel experience.

I wouldn;t entertain using a bike while the vast number of maniacs that drive cars are still around, it is simply asking for injury or death to cycle on the raods in the city where i live.

Run - too far.
Skaes - unsafe - see paragraph above.
Bus - see above.
Taxi - too expensive.
Tram - not available.
Train - not available.
Aeroplane - slightly too short a distance - nearest airport is 30 miles further up the road than i need to go.
Boats - here you may have something. The Trent & mersey canal runs past the bottom of my back garden, and I could disembark near my office, but mooring rights and slow speed prevent this being an option either.

So, I am left with .... THE CAR!!!

I go when I want, where i want, in comfort and security at a good speed, and I can choose to shaire my journey or not.

So, not a lot of point in some time (and money!) wasters coming to my house!
But of some of the "maniacs" can be persuaded to leave their cars at home to drive 200 yards to the shop then the roads would be safer for some of the other options.

Missed that one Andy, the bike.

I wonder if they will be knocking on N0 10s door?

In fact why not a circular bus service outside the Houses of Parliament and ban all cars?

ichkeria - it's the people who drive around the estate where i live that are the maniacs in question! I have more near misses getting off the estate onto the main road than I do on the commuter roads into the city.

AOG - I doubt it. Dave already cycles - but with a car behind him with his red boxes and a security bod installed!
Just had a look and I live in one of the areas involved. I shall ask them how they expect me to get my whole weeks shopping home with all of the children in tow.
I would LOVE that. I'd actually let them give their spiel and then point out that to get the 16 miles to work it would a)cost 3 times what I pay by car, and b) to get to work I'd have to leave the night before, an leave again before I could get home on public transport.
I'd love it.
