2. I'm guessing the question setter has got this wrong. Tom died on Thursday 13th July 1967 after passing out from heat exhaustion exacerbated by amphetemine use (common in the sport at the time) on the ascent of Mont Ventoux during that years Tour de France.

Yes, it was Tom Simpson.

And yes, he died in the race on 13 July.
