Oh I'm very sorry to hear that, I know you've been his carer for some time now x
How nice for him though that he has gone from your loving care to a nursing home with wonderful staff. Nothing more than what he deserves. I have such respect for these old soldiers and sometimes you hear such horror stories about how they end up being killed by thugs or dying all alone and it breaks my heart. Well done to you for being so good to him.
Hi the - How is he settling in? xxx
Yes, it is dreadful to think that 16 year old boys were out at Burna. Can't imagine how today's 16 year olds would cope.

I'm sure he will settle very well in his new home and appreciate a visit now and again.

It is very hard caring for somebody and I'm sure you have both gained a lot from it. :)
as long as you stilll visit him im sure he will be fine

Will pop in to tomorrow and see how he is ..
the home encourage visitors and phone
calls ..also they have functions which
is good for the residents ...as interaction
is the key word ...but now have to clear
his flat out ..that will be hard ...
Sorry to hear that theonlyone.
You gave all of yourself to him for a while now and I am sure you will visit and keep in touch with him.
It will probably take him a while to settle in properly. Once he makes some friends, he will be fine.
I don't envy you having to clear all the house.
Just take it in bits if you can. xx
Ahh, what a wonderful person he has had looking after him! Old people are forgotten half the time and its terrible...lucky hes got someone like you who really cares! If only there were more people like you x
You've done ur best for him....just keep visiting him at the home to keep him alert and check on his welfare. A newspaper is always welcome too.

Thanks for the replies ..I rang the home
earlier and he's ok ..the same carer will
be looking after him tomorrow ...to move
home is stressful ..so at 82 even more ..
so will pop in and see him in the morning ..
will let you know how he is ...but I can have
a lie in tomorrow ..the first one for 2 years ..
as I did 7 days a week ..then evenings ...

You've done all you could have done. I'm sure when you clean his flat out you will find a lot more about your old soldier friends life! They deserve our respect!! xx
at least you have the reassurance that he is in a good place and a place you can visit too! enjoy your lie in
Question Author
I visited the old boy today ..what a difference
a day makes ...he looked different as he had a
wet shave ..no way I could do that ..and is now
talking and interacting with other people ..
the care staff are really good ..early days ..
but a lot better than him being on his own ...

What are care homes like these days Theonlyone? My elderly mother is convinced the residents are abused by the staff and refuses to believe otherwise.

I would imagine they are monitored and inspected on a regular basis?
Question Author
Velvetee ..google csci ..they have to be
good to get a rating ..he has only been
there a day but looked happy as he had
people around looking after him ...also
he had a wet shave..no way I could do that ..
so far so good ...will let you know ...
