When a football captain wins the toss can he choose to kick off or does he just get to choose which end they defend / attack and the losing catian automatiaclly gets to kick off?

The winning Captain has both choices open. If it's windy then they may decide to pick a side of the field and let the oppo kick-off

In a football match, the team winning the coin toss chooses which goal to attack in the first half; the opposing team kicks off for the first half.
