England are playing a game against a local team Platinum Stars on Monday. But that team has a reputation for being overly physical and even though this is just a warm-up game it increases the chance of injuries to key England players.

Should we be risking the likes of Rooney and Gerrard with such a meaningless game so close to the tournament? I don't know which players will turn out but if it isn't a run out for the first team then it would be even more pointless.

It's not a bad idea to play a local side in the week before the finals, it's just that this particular one have a bad reputation. Maybe they'll just pussyfoot around so that it will prove to be a useful warm-up.

you give me shivers to the core
But I am not ignoring you bibble - is it the 'x's' doing it?
Question Author
is 'to the core' the same as 'up and down my spine'?
Think of me more as Marilyn Monroe then bibble - or should I call you Harvey? (;-))

oh no - is this the invasion of the egg chasers?
Capello's a moron to even consider a "friendly" this close to their 1st game. Should never have chosen Ferdinand in the 1st place - OH! Guess what happened...

...What'll happen if they play? Let's not forget that he's to choose an 11 from 23. How many injuries would it take to leave a viable team for Saturday?

Fabio - stop trying to please the media & do the job you were hired for - winning the World Cup!
england have no chance of winning anyway so what does it matter. I thought this manager would do a good job but he has already gone back on his word by picking Heskey
Hello Bibble..FOOTBALL loving voice of reason here :-)
Yes it is a concern that we should play in such a meaningless match against a local team, but I'm sure our better players won't be risked.
I remember England playing Aylesbury before a major tournament years ago.
They know what they are doing but would rather them practice penalties!

alexanderd - stop being so negative. Of the main teams Brazil, Spain and maybe Germany seem to be the only ones that have shown any sort of form in recent matches. One can be hopeful without being unrealistic.
sorry if I sound negative but I cant see how we are going to cope against the better teams when we struggle against the likes of Japan. If Rooney gets injured( and I think some teams may be out to get him) who is going to score the goals?
You can get injured in the warm up before a game - remember David James.

This 'friendly' game would have been fixed up ages ago by the governing bodies - the opposition would have been told 'no physical contact' without doubt.

It will probably be a walking pace kick about.

Is this a behind doors game or will there be cameras there?
Question Author
Just watching the last 1/2 hour of the game (only 5 mins left) and it is just a fairly gentle kick around without any real tackling.

3-0 to England by the way.
