The Bay of Biscay has been feared by sailors for many centuries. It has a terrible reputation. (Two of my relatives by marriage, whom I only ever met once, died when their ship was swamped by high seas in the Bay of Biscay. I can't be sure of the month but it might well have been March).

If you want a first hand experience of someone who's done the Portsmouth-Bilbao crossing in March last year, read this blog entry:

Happy sailing! ;-)

My ex was so ill (in August!) that he gave me his wallet. Bay of Biscay can be rough at any time of year. I enjoyed it though it's a nice route.
