Does anyone know why all the codes for Canadian airports are Y**? It's really weird

They're not. Great Slave Lakes is GSL. Q & Z are other prefixes.
The 'Y' prefix is not totally exclusive to Canadian airports and nor - as Pinotage points out - do absolutely all such airports' codes start with 'Y'.
