It appears very much to do so, according to this report, not only leaning to the Left, but also racist and anti Christian it would seem.

/// It was also accused of ‘downplaying’ violence by Islamists while being happy to criticise Christianity and report on the activities of other violent extremists. ///

/// It said: ‘In contrast to violence perpetrated by white-skinned extremists, the BBC tends to downplay any violent activity on the part of extremists.’ ///

/// It added: ‘The BBC feels uncomfortable tackling Islamic extremism or aggression by minorities; it feels more at ease to see Muslims as victims of racism or Islamophobia.’ ///

I think the level of bias in the BBC does tend to get somewhat exaggerated - but it's certainly there.

I remember one TV report where the BBC gave a homeopath about 10-15 minutes screen time, and gave a legitimate scientists only about 3/4 minutes for a response....
Who are the authors of this report, The New Culture Forum? How can we know if they have a hidden agenda and are themselves biased?
"Does The Bbc Lean To The Left?"

Not particularly.

What annoys me is the way they attempt to create "balance" by showing two extreme views (i.e. they'll interview a terroist and then a far-right fascist) and pretend that is balance.

In reality it should be "show views of complete nutter" then balance it by showing the views of the "central majority".

At the moment they are letting fringe minorities dictate news while the central ground occupied by most of the public is ignored.

This is what I'm talking about. Homeopathy doesn't deserve the time of day on the BBC. Just because it exists doesn't mean it's legitimate!
The Report might be more convincing if it was more than just the opinions of people who are 'Right-Centre' and 'Pro Christian'

/The New Culture Forum is a Christian right think tank based in the United Kingdom. It was founded in June 2006 by journalist and author Peter Whittle, its specific aim (as described on the NCF website) is to "challenge the dogma and relativism of the establishment and redefine the terms of the cultural and political debate."

the New Culture Forum set about becoming Britain's first right-wing think tank to deal primarily in cultural matters. /

So it's a Point of View

Naturally, WE ALL filter what we experience and view according to our existing pre-suppositions and biases
Description of The New Culture Forum, the authors of that report (as stated in the DM article)...

"A view of the cultural scene from the perspective of the right has been somewhat lacking, but the New Culture Forum's task is to fill in the gap"

...which gives some perspective on it's own impartiality.
And the BBC has moved some distance from the days, during Wilson's tenure of Number 10, when they regularly showed live footage of the May Day Parades in Red Square.
Broadly speaking, a group of Neocons Sandy, with an advisory board that includes Tim Montgomerie and that bloke from the Taxpayers Alliance

Just checked The New Culture Forum.

Can't see where they get their funding or who commissioned the report.

Without that information, it's difficult to know how much weight to afford its conclusions.

Am shocked that the Daily Mail chose to cover the story though, what with the impartiality it displays on any BBC-related story.

(Pushes sarcasm button).
Just imagine if the BBC reported news the same way as the Daily Mail does.

I find it almost amusing the way the Mail continually have a go at the BBC, yet nearly all political news reported by the Daily Mail is slanted to reflect their right wing proprietors agenda.

The BBC is not perfect, but just imagine if the presentation of their news was done in the same way as some of our daily papers! It doesn't bear thinking about.

Check out Fox 'News' (sic) some time
This is from the Daily Mail for Gods sake...hardly an unimpeachable source..
The BBC is the finest broadcasting organisation that I have ever come across. Just because it challenges the ruling Government on some issues, doesn't mean its "lefty". The BBC, especially NewsNight gave Tony Blair and Gordon Brown just as hard a time when they deserved it, and quite rightly so.

I'm afraid that the DM would think that any organisation that didn't agree with them would be "lefty" no matter who they are. I would wager that the Telegraph comes in for some stick, when discussed at DM board meetings !
sp18....this is interesting !

That is never going to happen, the Daily Mail will report on any subject, and is not scared to do so.

Just a few stories from today's DM, which shows it doers not only report on right wing and capitalist issues, unlike some papers who only criticise the right and never criticise their own.

Amazing how the left are so fixed on the matter of 'agreeing with the others point of view', yet seem quite incapable of implementing it themselves.
AOG...you forgot to add this to your list of DM stories !
