Man proposes, God disposes
Missed it,

I found it fantastic and have discovered a new faith = 'Moderates'........that sounds better than agnostic or athiest.

Seemed to me to be a re-editing of his previous programs - turned off half way through and just let it record.

Was there anything new at the end?

I do sometimes think that Dawkins is a real double-edged sword. He generates publicity very effectively but he comes across as so pompous and self righteous that I have to think that he's just preaching to the choir

I can't imagine any religious person ever sat up in his or her chair and said "Do you know what that Richard Dawkins has a point"

That's probably true because I imagine very few had the courage to watch. And actually, I don't agree with everything he says, but I don't think he's pompous at all. I admire his honesty.
, , , and courageous for taking on and continuing to confront such a contentious issue . . . life threats and all. I believe he has an appreciation for what is at stake.
Yes but come on - asking people in wheelchairs at Lourdes whether they've been cured yet?

These are people who Scientifc medecine has failed to cure - they are there in desperation - it felt rather exploitative of very vulnerable people to me.
Question Author
What? Does a wheelchair signify a 'no go' area, Jake? I actually think your attitude is rather patronising. It's the same old thing isn't it. It's religion, so let us pussyfoot around the real issues for fear of causing offence. No chance! If those people didn't want to talk to him, they'd have declined. They might be in wheelchairs but that doesn't make them incapable of making a decision. Good on him, I say!

Perhaps we should send him around a hospice for terminally ill patients then?

Perhaps he could talk to the parents of dying children on air?

Using vulnerable and desperate people to underline your point in a TV documentary is a step too far for me - you may think differently - if so we'll have to agree to differ
Question Author
Dear me. That seems a rather overly dramatic response. One could almost be forgiven for thinking you're becoming a bit of a religious apologist Jake. ;o)
I watched it and did not find it much different from his book with same title. One thing was obvious that he may have a bit of knowledge about Christianity and Judaism but his knowledge about Islam is almost nil. It made me laugh when he said that OT is foundation of faith for Jews, Christians and Muslims.

Jake – Although Naomi is questioning your alliance but I perfectly understand what you said. Few disabilities are just not treatable. But you do need some hope to cope with these difficulties for as long as you are alive. And that hope is only in religion and nowhere else and I do not find anything wrong it that. But few people will never understand until this time comes upon them.
I have no knowledge of Richard Dawkins or his works but did record it but havn't yet seen it. Does he cover all religions in it?
Question Author
Keyplus, if that made you laugh, it serves only to demonstrate your ignorance of your own religion. (And I don't believe for one moment you've read the book even though you say you bought it).

Incidentally, don't assume you know anything about my life. You don't.

Michael, if you google it you'll find a lot of reviews.
I didn't see the programme but I have read the book. Parents and teachers have a great responsibility to ensure their children are brought up with balanced views about the world. Indoctrination of children is a great evil. How can childen living in closed communities, such as the Hacidic Jews of Gateshead, Golders Green and Manchester, ever hope to arrive at a rational and balanced viewpoint? I thought most civilised societies abandonded brainwashing as a means of thought control long ago.
