How much longer are we going to sit back and put up with this religious islamic rubbish? The woman was there to help the Sunanic children for goodness sake!

No one asked the poor bl$$dy bear if he minded being called mohamad, or does he get locked up as well?
The only religion in existence that spreads terrorism, and kills their own people.
firstly, let me say i think this is ridiculous overreaction to a simple situation. 100%.

BUT - let me play devil's advocate here. There are people on here every day calling for foreigners who don't respect our values to be sent back where they came from, or imprisoned or both. That's exactly what happened here, (although inadvertently) so is there a double standard in the mainstream press?
Wickerman, While the nice lady is a victim of associating with madmen, do you make no distinction between going to another place to help as opposed to getting away from a place that hurts?

The incident in question is just one more example of the consequences in reality of taking make-believe seriously, i.e. religion.

wickerman. I do appreciate your commend. However, this situation is a lot more serious than you appear to award to it. This is not a case of a few ill-informed people speaking their mind, this is officialdom deciding to that a woman who has gone out of her way to help their children was guilty of insulting their religion eventhough the children named the toy. There is no islamic law to say that thou shalt not name any teddybear Mohammad, it is their interpretation of the muslim law. The woman was oblivious to any offence that may possibly be caused - who would? Are the moslims not able to comprehend that not everyone in the world is familiar with their customs. Surely any religion that is supposed to benefit people has a degree of tolerance for the uninformed. Are we supporting the infestation in the western world of these barbaric fictional beliefs by staying silent?
strikes me that however well informed Gillian was, she was going to be villified by some-one. I completely agree with Wildwood, this woman was there to HELP and educate( i wish my children were being educated by such a passionate teacher ) the teddy was named by an islamic child, on his request, . after himself , in the name "momamed" Ii.e - not after the prophhet, but after hiomself, what's the problem???? if any A/Bers know, please let me in into the secret- my mind is eternaly open!!!!
I agree and so does my pet turd Jesus
Obviously a preposterous state of affairs.

There was a letter in the paper this morning pointing out that someone found guilty of infringing our own anti-religious hatred rules could get up to *seven* years in prison (though obviously not lashes), so to use another religious expression, 'remove the log in your own eye before pointing out the mote in mine'.
Rampant Christian fundamentalists were put up with for many, many centuries. I don't see why their Muslim counterparts would be any easier to shift.

Once they get the upper hand, fundamentalists brutally supress any alternative thought at pain of death if necessary. It is awefully hard to change the regime once in place.

This is why it is so important to keep religion out of state affairs.
My questions:

Why isn't the bear allowed to be called Mohammed, considering that the children chose it and many children have the same name?

Is this exclusive, or is it condsidered ok for Christians to call their toys Jesus (also a popular name for boys in Hispanic countries)?

Why was the teacher there in the first place? I have always felt a bit uncomfortable about people going over to other countries with different cultures/religion in order to 'help'. Shouldn't the teacher have stayed in this country and actually helped more?

I apologise if these questions have been answered. I feel torn between both sides here, as I think that although it seems a ridiculous situation, the woman is a bit of a twonk.
Is she really naive, or was she having a good chuckle at the thought of calling the bear Mohammed?

All very well saying it was the children's choice. What would she have done if they said call it Jesus?
Nothing, hopefully! But they probably wouldnt've liked that either - to even mention a Christian prophet in their classroom!
It's quite simple - Brits should stay at home. From now on, any Brit who goes out to gumbogumboland should know what they're in for. These people hate Europeans and don't give a toss if they're there to help their people or their children. My advice is: just don't go to these countries. You can't help them. They're savages. Gillian Gibbons is just lucky they didn't eat her.
Is Gumbogumboland anywhere near ShortbreadOffalBagpipesandHeroinland..?
Waldo - yes indeed. Right next door. Where we eat haggis and toss cabers. See you Jimmy!
In your Q you ask how much longer are we going to sit back and put up with this religious Islamic rubbish? What exactly do you propose we do? Invade them?

I am in some agreement with Whickerman here.

Albeit unwittingly - and to many of us, ridiculous - she has contravened the rules of an intolerant Islamic nation. I always thought that when we visit other countries, although protected to some extent by our consulate, we have a responsibility to abide by the laws of that country, whether oppressive or not and whether we agree with the regime or not.
Anyway, what I want to know is whilst she is away in Sudan, who is popping round her flat to feed her cats Allah, Jesus and Buddha?
I believe the full name of her first cat is '-takesitupthewrongun'.
Question Author
Octavius, you are only supporting my main gripe and indeed, we generally do obey the laws of other countries we go to. The point is that there is no law in Sudan that prohibits the naming of a toy after their idolised deity. It was decided by the officials that a crime had been committed, obviously because of her origin.

We can do something by pressurising our politicians to stop the permeation of the harmful aspects of dogmatic religions into out society, just as we have done with FGM. The present absurd PC brigade makes conventional western customs take a backseat to generally foreign influences.
Panic, Jesus is also a prophet of Islam, so I suppose calling the bear Jesus would have offended them too.

These people have a totally different mindset, and logic doesn't seem to figure in their world at all. It seems to me that some of the Islamic nations are becoming more and more intent on causing conflict with the west at the slightest opportunity. I might be wrong, but I can't remember this sort of thing happening much in the past. It all seems to be occurring fairly recently. Although I strongly suspect that it's done for a purpose, I don't know what we can do about it or how we can combat it. Any ideas?
Yes but it might have offended her, so she would have said no to the kids.

Therefore she should have said no.

My point is it is no defence to blame the kids.

She would have said no if they had suggested Superstud
