Can anyone remember the game after which newcastle fans made human chains to get down the central motorway in order to get at the opposition coaches (I think it was a London team probably Chelsea and assume it was the 1970's)

What on earth are you on about?

What is a central motorway?

Question Author
Just for the hard of thinking - a motorway is a big road and central refers to the middle of something -the central motorway is the big road that runs through the middle of Newcastle
There is no motorway in the centre of newcastle u thick tw@t.

Question Author
In that case why don't you walk across the Tyne Bridge heading from Gateshead and stand in the middle of whatever you think you are walking across.
You clearly don't know the answer to the question so instead of making smart arsed (not) comments why not consider this quote which could have been written for you:
"Better to keep your mouth shut and have everyone think you're an idiot than open it and remove all possible doubt"
Eeeerrrr that wold be called a ROAD

People linking arms? Why didn't they just run after them?

If you knew where coaches were parked why on earth would you have to link arms to get at them?

So your question is ridiculous on at least 2 levels.
Tell you what post this question again in sport and see the response you get lol.

Now I see why you're struggling to understand - why didn't you just ask for clarification rather than act retarded, the motorway as it is and has as far as I remember been called has a flyover bit so there are 2 levels (still with me?) the people from the upper level climbed over the edge and formed a human chain vertically climbing over each other to get down to the lower level (still there?) where the coaches were travelling not parked. And after I've wasted my time explaining this you still can't help - are you a mackem by any chance?
PS Google "Newcastle Central Motorway" if you still doubt it exists
Well paulos66, surely you can see why this question is so confusing for someone unfamiliar with Newcastle? I have been to Newcastle a few times and never knew that there was a tiny section of motorway in the centre. Also, you did not make it clear that the human chain you were on about was going to a different level, it sounded as though there were a load of people linking arms on the central reservation or something! Sorry I don't know the answer to your question but it does explain why when I went to see Liverpool play away at Newcastle in the 80's the police brought all the coaches to the back of the away end and escorted them out of Newcastle, and for people like us who had travelled by car they gave us a lift in a black moira back to our car!

Dear Reverandfunk
I've just re-read this thread and think I maybe overreacted a tad yesterday
I read too much tone into your response. I'll endeavour to be a better person in future - hope there's no hard feelings - sorry.
I don't think I'm ever going to find the answer to this question though!

Try looking on this site paulos66

Thanks for the link Daffy, like the site but still no further forward - starting to doubt myself but I think it's a bit too bizarre for me to have dreamt it (I hope)

Just been told on another site that it was West Ham in the early 80s - the search continues!
