...so now we have Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep as the original is deemed to be too offensive. This, coupled with story about the antique dealer being arrested in Hereford for selling antique G*llyW*gs, just makes me soooooo proud to be British. I gotta emigrate

The other part I forgot to mention with the Nursery Rhymes story is that Humpty Dunpty now has a miraculous escape as the part about him being smashed to pieces was thought to be too violent.

Ye Gods.

Are there any poems, ryhmes, toys etc that are offensive to white coloured people ?. I can't think of any.
I like to have a good laugh at PC nonsense as much as the next person, but this sounds like it's made up. Where's the story from?
Christ, what are then going to make of innie meenie minie mo?
gerkin, the whole poit about the pc nonsense is that all other races who i know laugh at it and don't find it offensive, if someones got an issue with humpty dumpty i suggest they need a visit from the men { oh sorry persons} in white coats
Apologies should of read ''point''

Apparently it is being introduced to promote 'equal opportunities'.

How? How does this promote equal opportunities?

The thing that annoys me most about this sort of thing is that it is middle class white liberals who come out with old pony like this when it has got absolutely naff all to do with them.

If a black person said that Baa Baa Black Sheep offended them, then perhaps some credence should be paid to it (although I'd still be inclined to tell them to get a life), but until that happens these idiots should be ignored.

Can we please ignore these? The only reason that stories like this appear in print is because they are considered to be utterly outrageous, and no-one in their right minds would back the idea. Sensationalism, pure and simple. Ask 100 people, 1 million people and no-one will back this. Everyone's trying to fight an invisible PC army, when it's just the odd crackpot who decides that he needs to come up with a new idea to impress his bosses.

PC brigade WHAT PC BRIGADE - poorest brigade i have ever heard about i have never found a member - not one - not once AND i worked for the concil for a few years AND then various other Associations were all this PC madness is meant to originate... this it is just an urban myth that keeps getting repeated and repeated.

But i am annoyed with the new Chicken Little movie based on the original Chicken Likkin story ... i'll ruin it for you by confirming that they do not get eaten by the fox at the end anymore! (PC gone mad, PC gone mad arrrrgh ... i blame brussels - back off europe - and keep the pound or something or other maybe... good night)

Supernick - God bless you for saying what is true.

Listen up everyone - this is my theory - The Express and Daily Mail print these stories to stoke up covert racism. They print them to make white people angry...and the anger is directed at black people...who have nothing to do with these decisions.

Ignore these stories...they have no impact on our lives.

Once again - Supernick...you rock.

Well undercovers this was reported in several sources. The centre manager concerned was Stuart Chamberlain and he claimed to be acting according to the "equal opportunities approach"

The golly story the other day actually involved the police who reacted to a complaint about a couple of them in a shop window.

the 2 stories above are not just an "urban myth that get's repeated" there are these crack pots among us.

For me, it's not such much the covert racism element here (which is why i included the Humpty Dumpty part, albeit a bit late!), but the continuing erosion of those things that I grew up on and that makes us the nation we are (were?).

It's the 'not smacking your children cos it's against their human rights' (and people wonder why happy slapping, petrol bombing, child raping abusive gangs roam our estates). It's the 'you shouldn't do this, you can't do that because you may upset someone who actually doesn't give a toss', and it's the fact that if I say there's nothing wrong with the fact that I was brought up singing about a black sheep eating jam from a jar with a golly on it, whilst being smacked by my teachers and parents for doing wrong or being rude, I get accused of being a dinosaur who needs to get with the modern world by exactly the sort of people who perpetrate this cr4p.

Probably a bit jumbled but that's because you're right about one thing though SP, I am angry!!!

The Golly shop is quite nearby to where I live and I can confirm that the poor Golly's were taken into custody by the local plod :( However the good news is that it made the local papers round here and, being the good sensible down to earth folk that they are round here and militant to the hilt, there have been a spate of folk in Ledbury, Leominster and Bromyard etc, sporting their old robinson's Golly badges in protest including one of the local shopkeepers who is black and not a tad offended by the dear little Gollys.I believe there are also "Golly is innocent" badges and t shirts being made as we speak by some local youngsters, so as Supernick and Sp say it's all a load of unsupported politically correct twaddle best ignored because no-one wants to be bgogged down and have racism stirred up unnecessarily by this nonsense.

Cheers SP. It's such easy (read lazy) journalism. You know you can get a good page out of a headline such as this. "PC Brigade ban Nursery Rhymes from School", and a big pictue of a few kids looking confused/upset. And it gets a reaction out of people because it's clearly barking mad. You can get really good editorial value out of it, and a letters page probably as well. Then sooner of later another councillor, desperate to prove that he's reacting to the latest e-mail circular sent from head office about improving cultural realations, will have a meltdown and ban a butcher's from selling pork in it's window etc. Then the whole cycle goes round. If they're lucky, the local rag, in this case the Oxford Courier will catch the major News Corporations on a slow day, and their groundbreaking story will work its way into the national headlines. Wahey for them. Before you know it the Daily Mail will announce an erosion of our civil liberties and turn the whole piece into a piece about asylum seekers.

Well I'm offended by Snow White and as for Red Dwarf, that fails on many counts.

the pc brigade is not literally a brigade of people sitting in an office looking for things to ban its not an official job title - its is the collective ideas of occasional jobsworths who get daft ideas
Trojanface - yeah - I remember some of the things that I grew up with that defined what I thought of as 'English' and thank God...a lot of those things have been eradicated. We are not defined by nursery rhymes. How could we be?

Supernick - Good lord man...have you been reading my thoughts? That's exactly how I see things.

The whole 'PC gone mad' thing is a smokescreen. It affects no-one. Absolutely no-one. I honestly believe it's a scare tactic by elements of the right wing media. Thank God most intelligent people see through it, shrug their shoulders at the eccentricities of the out fringes and get one with what's important in life...bringing up their kids, earning a decent wage and constructing their shrine to Kylie.

...or is that last bit just me?
