Talking on a previous thread about visiting churches, I wondered which particularly impress you? While I fully appreciate the history of the ancient and often greatly admire the architecture, this one, Hallgrímskirkja, the parish church in Reykjavík, Iceland, founded in 1945, and considered by some to be ugly, is for me quite breathtaking. Its interior is utter simplicity.

Given a choice between this and the ostentation of St Peter’s in Rome or the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, I would choose this every time. Never liked fuss. ;o)

Your thoughts and pictures welcome.

//good grief Hazi, surely that's enough to induce a migraine?!!//

They just might have a cure for that.

I love looking around old churches. Some of the ones in the West Country are interesting - especially remote ones such as that on Lundy or those in the wilds of Exmoor. My most memorable cathedrals are St Vitus in Prague, the one in Milan (because you can go up onto the roof) and St Andrews in Singapore because the memorial plaques to those who suffered under the Japanese occupation are very poignant.
You don't have to go out of the country to see some magnificent examples of Cathedrals one of my favorites being Lincoln,I remember as a kid going to the coast and one of the high points of the journey was the first sight of the Cathedral visible for miles away on top of the hill.
Funny, I never really liked Lincoln cathedral, three towers is one too many. It might be different if the central one had a spire on it, though.

Wasn't it once the tallest building in the world?
Hallgrímskirkja - aye, what a braw looking building.
I’m more into ruins my self, but Roslyn on outskirts of Edinburgh is no bad, York minster was quite interesting too
