Surely the reaction from the general public would have been the same if a Christian preacher was being abused, or for that fact if anyone else was?

Why do any social experiment?
It's like Beadles about only with a less than funny reason for doing it. If no one had come to the rescue then the report would have been very different.
The bus stop one was interesting though. It shows the crowd mentality and that no one wanted to put their head above the parapet. But I bet you if one had there would have been more to follow.

Can't really add anything - except to say that I this current climate of Islamophobia, and heaven knows we see enough of that on here (!) - it's a valid social experiment to conduct.
It would be reasonable, if the general approach on here towards Muslims is to be believed, that the crowd would have all joined in with the abuse.
How nice to know that the wider world does take a tolerant and protective view of Islamic faith being expressed - such a nice change.

I watched a few videos from a series called "what would you do".
A staged situation is filmed in a public space. One was a lady who was not well dressed being thrown out of a clothes shop.
They want to see how the members of the public react. It gets a bit sugary and annoying but if it opens people's eyes to bigotry and people being treated unfairly it is worth showing.

What nonsense, people on here have a very rational fear due to the jihad decalred on the West.
This sort of thing is growing, however I think it will backfire. Just like that 'person' Beadle people will start to think all instances are being recorded and not bother in other words a case of crying wolf.

There was a social experiment in (I think) America, where a dog was chained up at a fence...pedestrians within minutes grew concerned and tried to free the animal.
A few hours later, they tied a little girl to the same fence.
Pedestrians ignored her.
Just walked on by.
Another one a couple of years ago - White teenager in a park trying to break the padlock on a bike. People walked up to him, offering help...even though he said the bike wasn't his.
A few hours later, a black kid was put in exactly the same position, and had the cops called on him.
These social experiments can be useful in throwing light on attitudes.

I think we must use different dictionaries - my definition of the word 'rational' does not cover the endless paranoiac bile posted on this section on a daily basis.

That's simply not true.
What is a 'potentially white area'?
They are carried out in urban areas, where you get a mix of races.
And if Christians want to carry out such experiments, they can if they want.

Anyone can carry out such experiments, we perhaps shouldn't ask why no one has done one in a particular setting unless we are prepared to do so ourselves.
I too would intervene if I saw someone being harassed in the street/park and have done - yes it doesn't always go to plan but better than walking away.

Who is responsible for carrying them out, and should they be carrying out all sorts of experiments, to gauge public attitudes?
Should it not be down to the minorities in question to launch these tests?
