Why Are So Many People On This Site So Anti-Jehovah Witness?

Yesterday, I was out walking when I noticed a lot of people around the estate. They were Jehovah's Witnesses. Having engaged in conversation I had a leaflet advertising a website JW.Org. From the conversation I found them to be polite, happy and they made no attempt to convert me. They didn't even ask where I lived or my name, they were quite happy to just stand and talk.

oivabottle: Isn't brevity a wonderful skill....
My dog hates them, gets really aggressive at the gate which is odd as he does not do it to anyone else.

Must sense something.
Whenever I meet a nice lady who offers me a 'good time' I think ' I bet she's a JW' and decline her offer politely. :o)
You are joking, goodlife, that JWs have given you all the answers you need, given you the truth? If you want to believe that, fine - I'm not that narrow-visioned.
Oliverbotel. Well said. In a nutshell, those are their beliefs. What unhappy lives they must live. no Chrimbo, no birthdays and especially no, for true, Jesus. Pity their children
For those who come from non-JW families - n contact with their parents or siblings, either.
vulcan@ Your welcome
my welcome to whom?
It is some time helpful to realize that children living amid these desperate, critical times are adversely affected.
In many instances the parents have lost confidence in their social and political leaders, in their industrial superiors, and in their religious teachers. What, then, can be expected of the children when they start thinking for themselves?

They too lose confidence in the system around them, and in their parents and grandparents, whom they hold responsible for the present rotting system.

All because you don't know your Bible.

well not join the JWs obviously if goodlife is anything to go by..
Personally i feel quite happy that many religions think we're going to hell and are going out their way to contact us to help us avoid it!

Statistically iv'e found that people who believe in god are more likely to help their fellow man in times of disaster/famine than people who done't due to them having the constant nature that they're being watched and judged all the time but that't not to say that atheists and those that don't believe in god aren't as kind it's just iv'e met more religious folk who like to help out but this could be because non religious people don't state their religion or beliefs when helping you out though not all religious people do which now makes this post slightly confusing to those that don't believe what i'm saying but will make much sense to those that do.

You have obviously not read the replies to your contrived contribution...
Give us a break. A serious question is fine. Something contrived with your church, aimed to solicit some kind of response, is not fine. So go pray.
scooping: I was afraid I might be accused of trying to obfuscate the truth!
Besides, just to borrow a word or two from Nietzsche: “It is my ambition to say in ten sentences what others say in a whole book.”
That seems to be what the JW's have been doing for years!

Achad; you're absolutely right!
In fact, I'd add one more thought to your comment: No freedom! None, whatsoever!
Truly frightening.

idiosyncrasy, you’re suffering under a misapprehension. I can only speak for myself, but I don’t dislike Jehovah’s Witnesses per se. I dislike the dangerous and disingenuous nonsense they promulgate, but no more than I dislike the dangerous and disingenuous nonsense that people of any other religion promulgate. Jehovah’s Witnesses here appear to be to the fore simply because, apart from one regular Muslim, out of all the people of religion who post here, no one else is willing to reveal his/her allegiance – you included. One could be forgiven for thinking that you – and they - are ashamed to stand up and be counted. I have asked you more than once which church you belong to, but to no avail so your apparent lack of confidence in your own faith can hardly be expected to inspire anyone else.

I would add that Goodlife (under his previous pseudonym, ‘Elderman’, was, for a long time, equally reluctant to expose his allegiance. It was only his penchant for copying and pasting that laid bare his true leanings. I really don’t understand why people who proclaim such surety in their religion are so very reluctant to divulge the specific brand.

It's because deep down there's a tiny nugget of sense left that knows it's *** stupid and doesn't want to have to answer any difficult questions about it.

You might not realise it but that isn't actually a compliment.

Specifically, the bit about being watched and judged. It's akin to saying that we're all naughty schoolchildren and only those who have seen the headmaster staring at us all, from a high window, are on their best behaviour.

This implies that their good behaviour is not innate, it is 'forced' and they're doing it to 'buy' their way into heaven. A grubby transaction, then.

As forms of societal control go, however, it's first class. Who was second only to the Pharoahs, in ancient Egypt? The priesthood, of course. We really have advanced so little, in 4000 years.
My mother thought they were lovely, one of them fixed her vacuum cleaner.
