Goodlife, //the result is real, lasting changes in their lives. //

That fits in nicely with my question, which you failed to answer. Several people have said that religion changes one’s life, but I like my life and have no wish to change it – and when problems arise, as they do in everyone’s life occasionally, I deal with them. I think you’ve answered your own question. Without the emotional crutch of religion, the religious can’t cope with life.

Ok Naomi, but Jesus said: This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come. (Matt. 24:14)

For all of this to happen, though nearly 2,000 years have passed Gradually, Jehovah gave his people a clearer understanding of his will and purpose.
Today, there are 7,782,346 proclaimers of the good news in 239 lands of the earth. What a fulfillment of Bible prophecy! Never before has this good news of the kingdom been preached on such a large scale. Never before have there been so many faithful servants of Jehovah on earth.

Yes people do say I like my life and have no wish to change it.

When one speaks to of this old dying world who are supporting it and trying to hold it together, one should soon sees that their theory is that there must be selfishness between nations to survive, there must be selfishness among men to make progress, to advance civilization.

Just take a look at the selfishness of this world, yes, very practical is it, for those who love it that way.
Goodlife, // though nearly 2,000 years have passed Gradually, Jehovah gave his people a clearer understanding of his will and purpose. //

In the past 2000 years Jehovah has given people nothing. He has remained voiceless and invisible. Charles Taze Russell and an assortment of unnamed biblical interpreters gave you what you believe in.

Than your blind naomi too.
No, I'm not blind. I'm realistic.
absolutely.
and even some religious people acknowledge it.

however to say it doesnt matter as long as it comforts people is ridiculous.
if thats ALL it did then fine, but it isn't, it is the cause of all manner of problems all over the world.

just because someone feels a bit better because they rub their crucifix and utter a few hail marys does not alter the fact that religion is one big lie and a scourge on the world
Only 7.7 million subscribers, in a world of 7+ billion? That's barely one person in a thousand.

How on earth did they build such a fancy HQ building with a membership that small?

What I really don't understand is why the witnesses are so pleased with themselves about the world coming to an end (quite soon, they seem to be saying). It's hardly what you could call an appealing sales pitch.

Not that they ask for money, I hasten to add. Not on the doorstep anyway. Indeed I have never heard any tales of people being asked to send them money, nor anything about money being signed over in wills etc and I can't for the life of me work out how they function, financially as an organisation.

Not paying for advertising obviously helps, hence threads like this, no?

How many times does 7.7 million go into 144,000?

I am still very interested in how it is that the JWs register themselves as a charity unyet engage in no easily recognisable charitable functions. Seems rather weaselly to me.

Actually, it’s rather disingenuous of them to claim that money received supports humanitarian efforts worldwide. It does – but in the main, only if the victims happen to be Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Believe what you want to believe.

This is so to a large extent in this material world, but how true is it when it comes to spiritual matters.

Yes some agnostics and atheists in particular demonstrate an unwillingness to believe.

You like to take the position that it is more important to reject error than it is to accept the truth, simple.
Goodlife, rejecting error is the path to the truth. Try it.

//Likely, they will be visiting you soon//

I hope someone's selling tickets...
how come when an ABer posts a question like this they always manage to reply as though they know they are right? It's very odd, the tone of authority seems to be their main ploy.
Dot, Goodlife's only purpose here is to preach. He gets Brownie points from his masters for it.
//You like to take the position that it is more important to reject error than it is to accept the truth, simple. //
goodlife, I assume from the above statement that you take the opposite view, therefore you like to take the position that it is more important to accept error then it is to reject the truth, simple. You must lead a very strange life.

Sloopy, ^^^^ invite is in the Post!
;-)
thanks, I look forward to a de-tailed debate ;)

No,I am saying you lot don't believe time will tell. (Eccl. 3:1)
Does anyone remember that time when the hippies suddenly became aware that the Maharishi's latest car purchase was, in fact, his 9th Rolls Royce?

As the saying goes: "That's gotta hurt"

@LazyGun

what's the 144,000 a reference to?

@naomi

thanks for the link. No payment method left uncovered, by the look if it.
If they can sweet-talk people into giving them money voluntarily, it's so much less grubby than passing the plate around the captive audience at a church service, isn't it?

I'd ask for a rousing chorus of "Heavenly Bank Account" at this point, except it doesn't have a chorus. ;-)
Goodlife, I do believe time will tell, time will eventually tell me I'm dead and that's the end of it. It's people like you who believe time will tell you that when you're dead you are still alive and will continue to be for all eternity, need the emotional crutch. I said earlier you must lead a strange life, it looks as if you will continue to lead a strange life even after you're dead.
