Religion: Are They All Really Death Cults?

When all said and done, aren't the 'big three' religions just glorified death cults? Disregarding all the flim-flam about rituals, sacraments other miscellaneous guff, aren't Judaism, Christianity and Islam all built from the ground up with the notion that death is the true beginning and that the real and tangible life we are all currently experiencing is simply a transient, fleeting moment in our ultimately eternal lives?

If this is the case, doesn't a belief in a 'life-after-death' religion devalue and diminish the value of life in the reality that we all inhabit?

It certainly seems to diminish the brain as I'm sure the followers of these religions can't be born as intellectually challenged as they seem to be.

I assume that since no one has bothered to offer a counter view, my assertion must be correct ;-)
Yuh reckon so?

. . . and even if you are not a proponent of 'global warming', this might nevertheless give pause for thought.

I think so. I can't disagree with anything you've said. It's disappointing that no religious people have replied.

Watched your links Mibs. Thanks.
Religion is quite, quite mad. It's obsession with death lead me to ask the original question.

Ludwig – I think that the religious people on AB haven't bothered to respond because they know privately that their particular religion has death at the heart of it. To deny that Christianity / Judaism / Islam are death cults is to deny their own holy books and the words of their own prophets.

To paraphrase Terry Pratchett, “It's death all the way.”.
No it does not.
////It certainly seems to diminish the brain as I'm sure the followers of these religions can't be born as intellectually challenged as they seem to be.////

A very average atheistic thought. Good enough to show to my kids and prove my point about atheistic arrogance.
Please don't assume all atheists are so arrogant, keyplus.

Or perhaps others started taking you as I have done for a while now.
Jim, the one's who aren't need not worry.
Dreams of pot ridden arabs with nowt else to do in those sandy deserts
//The ones that aren't arrogant needn't worry//. So on the basis of one person whom you have decided is arrogant, you're going to show this to your children to prove atheistic arrogance. keep on brainwashing them, you obviously think telling them a good story is better than the truth.
// Jim, the one's who aren't need not worry. //

Sounds like you can live a normal life avoiding religious nonsense and still be ok as long as you avoid arrogance. Hurrah!
What could be more arrogant then the belief that you are an appointed spokesperson for the creator of the universe on behalf of the eternal well-being of all humanity.

Keyplus - “... Or perhaps others started taking you [birdie] as I have done for a while now...”

What? A formidable opponent when it comes to arguing the point about the nature and validity of religion? That's the real truth Keyplus and you know it. Unfortunately you couldn't formulate a coherent argument about the validity of religion if your life depended on it.

As for your comment, “... Good enough to show to my kids and prove my point about atheistic arrogance...”. That's it Keyplus; keep infecting the minds of the young with your death-cult tall tales about your insane prophet’s lies and propensity for extreme violence and murder. Complete arrogance and an aversion for logic are the cornerstones of religion and you repeatedly display them with dismal regularity.

As a side issue, did you see the note that the three muslim lunatics from Birmingham who have recently been convicted of terrorism, had in their car? The note said:

“Today is a day of retaliation (especially) for your blasphemy of Allah and his Messenger Muhammad. We love death more than you love life. The penalty for blasphemy of Allah and his Messenger Muhammad is death.”

This kind of thinking rather goes to proves my point does it not Keyplus? Will you be showing this to your kids too?

So, Keyplus you appear to disagree with my post, are you saying then you were born as intellectually challenged as you seem to be.
As for arrogance, I would say that that applies to someone who is prepared to impose his beliefs on others (including his children) without questioning those beliefs and without even attempting to find the least shred of evidence for those beliefs. Atheists don't have any belief to impose whereas imposing belief is the core of your religion.
/Please don't assume all atheists are so arrogant, keyplus/
Jim you are too polite, in keyplus's mind all atheists are arrogant in that they have dimissed all of god's works and his prophet as irrelevant. You along with keyplus may have thought my original post arrogant , but I'm afraid that these discussions on R&S are a bit one sided unless the believers can be flushed out of the undergrowth with a provocative remark.
