I've just watched the third and final part of this excellent series that traced the history of that lovely old city throughout the ages, and culminated in its current continuing bloody religious conflict - and I just thought STOP! For the sake of humanity STOP! The Orthodox Eastern Church at odds with the Church of Rome, in turn at odds with the Protestants, and all at odds with the Jews who in turn are at odds with the Muslims - everyone at odds with everyone else - and all for nothing except the totally unsupported tripe found in ancient books! Bloody religion! What stupid futile nonsense it all is! Bloody depressing!

I despair!
i watched it
Question Author
Morning Sith, what did you think of it?
morning naomi, yes, it was good, i learnt something and altogether it was a good viewing.
Question Author
So what did you learn?
The religous never learn anything because they already know everything,
Don't despair, Naomi. Be of good cheer, for tomorrow is the anniversary of the greatest day mankind has ever known.
Question Author
I do, I really do. I despair!
There's no helping some people. I would despair too if it wasn't a mortal sin.

//There's no helping some people.//

Sandy, you never said a truer word.
yes beso, but to know everything you have to learn anything as well, otherwise how are you able to say i know everything?
Only God Almighty knows everything. We poor mortals can only struggle to glimpse his plans for us. We can not know the ineffable.
i agree with you sandyroe
Thank you, Sith. It's good to know that not all my words fall on stony ground.
Do you mind if I give you a bit of advice? The atheists in R&S are as sly as a sackful of monkeys. Sometimes 'softly, softly cachee monkey' is the best tactic to bring such people back to their lost faith.
naomi, I've only just spotted this thread, and I agree with all you say - excellent programme, all at odds but all three Abrahamic faiths from the same roots, so what are they arguing about....?
I didn't lose my faith bacuse I never had it.

Te Sunday School stories about walls falling down to the sound of trumpets and some guy coming alive again never really sounded plausible. I guess they din't get me early enough.
Same god but they argue over the details of His Will as provided to them by so called prophets who imagined they had a direct communication with God.
Sometimes it's necessary to read between the lines. The defences of Jericho fell when trumpets were sounded because a 5th Column were inside the city and opened the gates. The clarion call was a signal.
That's my view too, sandy - biased reporting...
Whey did they have to march seven times around the city first?
