odd then that around 70% are evangelical lutherans and the church of sweden claims over 6.5m members (2010) - which is actually more like 85% of the population figure in the youtube clip.

i think its unhelpful to separate out the yes, no and maybes. and then lump the no and maybes together. its just convenient statistic reporting aint it ? see the church of sweden are doing the same!
Ankou I agree with you up to a point but
'church of sweden claims over 6.5m members (2010) - which is actually more like 85% of the population figure in the youtube clip.'
The church of sweden also claims that god exists....would you believe anything they say?
no, and i don't believe the stats in the clip either - hence my point above.
Ankou.. that was where I agreed with you, it looks like an atheist massaging the stats to support his argument.(as if he needed to)
well, a poll in 2005 found that :

23% of Swedish citizens responded that "they believe there is a god".
53% answered that "they believe there is some sort of spirit or life force".
23% answered that "they do not believe there is any sort of spirit, god, or life force"

so lobbing the maybes with the no's as i said really muddy's the water. 23% and rising should be encouraging enough, but i aint relocating to sweden any time soon.
Me neither, it's warmer here. (just that little bit closer to hades)
well they say there's a nice warm fire in valhalla.
Hades is in Toulouse, just a hour's drive down the road.
fair do's you'd probably have to go by ryanair, and even then it would be a 3 hour coach ride to valhalla from ryanairs "valhalla" airport.

you'd have to go through helheim to get to valhalla which seems like a large waste of effort.
There will likely always be many more atheists than are accounted for as long as religiously inspired ignorance, sponsored misconceptions and outright lies maintain a stranglehold on freedom of expression and conscience. Although atheism remains largely a matter of personal conviction, it might well ultimately require an organised front to rid humanity of one of the most egregious forms of prejudice that has ever existed and is still alive and well to this day.

Is Sweden the way to go? My beloved OH commutes from there. Much as he loves the place ( and Sweden is very progressive) I think he might beg to differ if push comes to shove.
"atheism remains largely a matter of personal conviction"
across cultures and nationalities, interpretation also differs.

237sj, not surprised if has to commute! i've been to sweden several times, and its a nice place for a ... short visit.
That's a typical example of overuse of technology for the sake of it. One had to sit for what seemed ages to get information that could have been presented in a table.

Lumping the "there could be a god we just don't know" lot in with the "I have faith there is no god" lot doesn't seem useful to me. Tempted to wonder abut the reason for it.

The conclusion they try to draw with their questions in the end are too simplistic. A culture is not just about religious views. And as for the Chinese government being so equal and fair it has to ban religion, one has to say one admires the cheek of the conclusion.

That went down well then!!

One thinks one needs to check ones videos before posting :-)
Hi Ratter ..It was probably posted by religionists to discredit atheists(wot me paranoid?):-)
^^ I'd suggest you try my new knee-knocking therapy.
Knee knocking isn't just knocking knees is it? there must be some special stuff made by monks or an extract from a plant only found in upper gondwonaland. Plus a fully trained therapist in attendance to make sure that nobody reads the contents list on the jar.
