If have a large sandstone barn on my property which was built in 1883. There are two red granite stones high up on one face. Is there a meaning or reason to these stones?

I've no idea, I'm afraid, if they have any significance res. If they take up the whole thickness of the wall, perhaps they're being used as "padstones" ....... carrying structural beams?

If nothing else, it wouldn't surprise me if they were nothing other than a bit of showmanship by the masons who built the barn. There was often a lot of competition between them to see who could get the biggest stone at the highest level.
Just a feature I would think : )
If they are randomly placed, it could be that the original builders just used them 'cos they had them lying around. No point in wasting materials.
