Urgent eczema question

My daughter suffers from acute eczema but, until now, we had it under control.
Lately, she has been suffering from severe rashes on her hands, legs, buttocks and, starting tonight tonight, her face!
She is in pain and very distressed

Primary care said 'take her home and give her Calpol!

The doctor's keep sending her home or prescribing creams that only make it worse.
I have taken her to the GP, the Primary Care and the A and E, they all just keep throwing useless creams or ridiculous advice at me.
Has anyone got any experience in this? I need help.

Although the last doctor I saw said I shouldn't worry about it
She previously suffered from Henoch Schonlein Purpura.

did the calpol not work?
has she ever been referred to a dermatologist ?
Ask for a referral to a dermatologist.
My cousin has had bad eczema since she was a child and the one thing she used to find eased it was swimming. I know it doesn't work for everyone as the chlorine can irritate it, but in her case it gave her a lot of relief - if only on a temporary basis.
The National Eczema Society exists specifically to give support to people like you and your daughter. Their helpline is available from 0800 to 2000 on weekdays, on 0800 089 1122. Alternatively you can email them at [email protected] (but you need to allow up to a week for a reply to emails)

Calpol is useless!
My daughter is curled up next to me in pain.
The Dermatologist (the expert) who said she has 'bad eczema' gave her a medicating cream.
Then why did the cream he prescibed just make her skin look like raw meat and make her scream?
has she had the top dose of calpol for her age and have you been giving it to her regularly?
CJ how old is your daughter ?
does the consultant know the cream is unacceptable to her? has she/he recommended anything else? Sometimes healthcare is a matter of trial and error

She is ten years old, and I have been giving her as much Calpol as I can.
It's not helping!
Phone NHS24 -no child should be in so much pain. They will deal or refer.I had a child who had localised eczema and spent many a sleeplesss night as he was in agony-we didnt have NHS24 nor walk in centres at that time.Take advantage please -I know how sore youre daughter must be:(
I can`t really see why the Calpol would help her apart from it`s anti-inflammatory properties. Don`t some eczema creams have retinol in them? I think they inflame the skin initially, but calm it eventually. Maybe you should give it a while and see how her skin settles down when it gets used to it (assuming it is retinol of course). Sqad will answer your question in the morning, I`m sure (and tell me I don`t know what I`m talking about, probably)! Good luck
no disrespect to quad................ but we have a health service, use it rather than waiting 12 hours until an ab user " to give their opinion"
Did the doctor prescribe antihistamines as it can help with the itching ? Have noticed with my daughter since the cold weather and having the central heating on has caused her eczema to be worse, a bowl of water by the fire or radiators to help keep the moisture in the rooms.
My baby has had eczema since he was 4 months old and it won't go away. GP prescribed Oilatum, Aqueous cream and hydrocortisone (sp) and it has done nothing. Funnily enough we had an appointment with the dermatologist today who has said that what was prescribed by the GP was useless. He has now been prescribed antibiotics to be taken internally and various emolient creams and steroids to be applied 2 or 3 times a day.
i had the same sort of thing a few years ago, although i was in pain, it wasn't so bad that i was curled up on the bed though. I tried everything and the only thing that worked was aqueous cream, just rub it in and don't wash it off. It's probably the weather that's making it worse too. Try not having the heating on too high as that can really dry your skin out and get her to drink plenty of liquids to keep her hydrated. I really hope she feels better soon.
Well, it certainly would appear that the acute eczema is now acute infected eczema and this is indeed a painful situation. You haven't mentioned what type of creams that your daughter is having, but she certainly would benefit from antibiotic cream e.g Fucidin and antibiotics by mouth as described by tigerblue.

I have no idea now old she is, but continue with the Calpol

I can see no connection with her past history of Henoch-Schonlein Purpura.

anneasquith...<<<.but we have a health service, use it rather than waiting 12 hours until an ab user " to give their opinion"<<<

She has, with no benefit.....that is why she is on AB
Fucidin is what I'm putting on my sons face Sqad as it is particularly bad there and keeps weeping and bleeding when he scratches himself. I have to keep putting socks on his hands as mitts won't stay on.
tiggerblue....you gave good advice.......CJ242 should see her GP and suggest antibiotics by mouth.
I hope it works Sqad. I can't bear to see him suffer with it. When I went to see the dermatologist she also got a second opinion from the consultant dermatologist just to confirm her diagnosis. Fingers crossed it clears up.

I'd definitely go and see a professional dermatologist CJ.
