Overrated Intelligence Of Aliens?

I'm not asking if aliens exist, I'm assuming the existence of aliens, the aliens of countless appearances worldwide and throughout time - the 2 legs, arms humanlike features etc. What I wanted to know is why do people assume that aliens are intelligent? There is this belief that they are superior to humans. Is it because of their flying technology and that they can transcend space at such speed. I mean how do we know that the material of their UFO's is not readily available on their planet? Or biologically they can adapt to different atmospheric conditions readily? That doesn't necessarily imply that the UFO inhabitants are anymore intelligent than us? If we had say metallic material that could float, we would no doubt have the whole of the Universe mapped out by now?

I was wondering this because assuming there was/is an alien in Roswell and how about the much hushed up incident on Shikoku Island in 2008 (suggestion of an alien carted off) how come none of their 'kind' have been to retrieve them? And how many, many reports are we going to hear of medical examinations - I mean how many examinations are they going to continually carry out from God knows how long these stories have been around? With intelligence comes curiosity but one has to really ask - are aliens really as intelligent as we give them credit for? Aren't we, humans the most intelligent beings in the Universe?

I'm merely suggesting that you're operating a double standard, you believe in something for which there is no proof (your words) are you (by your own standards) psychotic and would you (wilingly) submit to gene therapy to cure you of your delusions?

Wow, if you can design an atom bomb, you don't need to make a cup of tea! You make a point though although I don't think its about being right or wrong, it's all a grey area and just something to think about? Although I suppose if one believes that aliens are responsible for crop circles then they may well put that forward as their evidence?
Ooh I dunno, what else would Oppenheimer have to dip his biscuits into?
123everton, my guess is we interpret unexplained phenomena in the light of what we do already know (or think we do). Primitive people see rain as the work of gods. Those early 'sightings' were explained as 'electricity'. Once Wells and others started writing about the possibility of space travel, people started to imagine they were seeing it. Now we've been into space ourselves we wonder if what we see is other space travellers.

Personally, I suspect the 'electricity' guess is still the closest, but I could be very wrong. It's clear people have been seeing things they couldn't explain for a long time - since the dawn of time, in fact. It's less clear to me that lights in the sky are aliens. As for the tales of people being abducted by aliens and subected to anal probes, I have no explanation for this whatever, except possibly eating too much cheese before bed.

I just saw your 22;15 post Everton and before I switch of for the night I don't need proof to believe in something, if that 'labels' me as psychotic then no I am not willing to having my 'delusions' cured. At least I can say that I'm a happy psychotic. I'm also thinking of kicking you of the flight programme since you're questioning my judgement?

Have you noticed that no-one else objects? Wouldn't the World be a better place if everyone complied as easily or to use the language of a psychotic - we could have daffodils all year round? Nice talking to you and good-night Everton, Jno and Naomi.
Well then I suggest you don't 'suggest', and just get your facts straight instead of causing pointless arguments and unpleasantness every time I meet up with you. Fact: I don't 'believe' in anything for which I have no evidence. Now for heavens sake, just stop.
Seadragon I actually agree with you, I am wholly against the use of gene therapy to cure people of such harmless delusions.
Naomi, you do believe that aliens created life on earth, there is no proof for that (your words).
You fail your own measures of reasoning (physician heal thyself) I thought you espoused the view that it is only by open debate that views can be challenged, you seem to dislike it when your own views are challenged.
Seriously, believe what you want to believe, but don't decry others for the same thing.
Everton, You're mistaken. I have no objection to my views being challenged - in fact I welcome it because I like debate. However, it's patently obvious that you don't understand the difference between theory and belief. The theory that aliens created life on earth is just that - a theory - it is not a 'belief'. If and when new information becomes available, theories are open to change, but the religious consider their 'belief' to be indisputable fact - it is an immovable 'faith' - and therein lies the difference - and if you can't appreciate that, then you need to think about it a little more deeply. I have discussed my opinions with you ad infinitum, so if you want to remind yourself of what I've said in the past, stop hijacking this question and take the trouble to check my previous answers to your incessantly repetitive questions.

Incidentally, I didn't raise the issue of the possible presence of a religious gene - jno did - and I didn't use the words 'delusion' or 'proof'.

In response to your 22:59 post - I just think your mean! -

'Well then I suggest you don't 'suggest', and just get your facts straight instead of causing pointless arguments and unpleasantness every time I meet up with you. Fact: I don't 'believe' in anything for which I have no evidence. Now for heavens sake, just stop.' I had to copy it, it is so horrible.

People come onto AB for different reasons. Mine tends to be for some light relief from reality/life and there are some quesions in B & S that I can't resist. I am cool with everyone including yourself, but can't say how others are with me and I don't ask. If I am that unpleasant for you that you are having some difficulty on this thread then by all means take the topic and start another thread. No-one is forcing you to partake in this one.

And because I'm not all that perfect myself I would just like to throw in another suggestion - that you start a thread at some point asking why you flip so easily?

Everton - I not only totally agree with what you say regarding Naomi but you make some good points. I do show a double standard because there is a part of me that agree's with you in that aliens probably don't exist in the first place and there are plausible explanations for sightings, stories and events. But logic aside and without absolute proof I choose to believe that aliens of the type referred to on this thread, do exist for the same reason that there are explanations, sightings, stories and events.

I read the UFO crash in Japan a while back and the story lingered in my mind and I just thought that if an alien was towed away as they say happened at Roswell? Why have its fellow beings not returned for it? Do we really want to engage with such beings who abandon their kind? Or is this just Hollywood, after all ET's space-ship returned.

P.s - Besides when out with friends and they have a partner present who I am unacquainted with, it is much easier to ask 'Do you believe in alien existence?' for conversation then to say 'So how do you cope with your boyfriend when he is such ***** at work?'
Mmm .. .. Bye bye.
Has anyone noticed that since the advent of mobile phones with cameras the reported sightings of UFO's has dropped?
Question Author
Maybe but I have friend who says that he saw a UFO at night and took a picture but he has a cr@p phone and you can't make sense of the picture. With such poor evidence he doesn't obviously show many people.
Drawings in caves (from the time of the cave man) depict flying machines.
the MOD has lost interest, presumably because they no longer suspect them all of being Soviet spy/nuke devices

The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that it has never tried to contact humans.
Really razza? My 3 year old once drew a unicorn but I don't believe they are real.
cave men didn't understand the drawing of perspective, so it's quuite likely these 'flying machines' were just submarines drawn in the wrong place.
