In todays Metro it said that circumcision appears to offer some protection against H.I.V, as Keyplus once said (if I remember correctly), I was sceptical about this claim to say the least (I can't remember if I posted on it) but I am not too proud to say that I might have been wrong.
Anyone else prepared to concede that they may have been wrong in this instance too?

I am not entirely convinced that it is circumcision that reduces the chance of catching HIV in penetrative sex, rather than like of general hygiene in the uncircumcised that makes uncircumcised men more likely to catch HIV.
The Lancet is a highly respected medical journal and in a report about HIV in Pakistan, where circumcision is the norm, it says that most sufferers of HIV contracted the virus through penetrative intercourse, so clearly being circumcised is no guarantee.

Ok ruling out druggies, other needle accidents and dodgy transfusions, it is virtually impossible for a man to get HIV in normal sex. It needs fluid to fluid contact, a woman can catch it during normal sex with a man if some tearing occurs but HIV is caught through sex nearly always one of the protagonists is gay and been utilising the tradesmans entrance as I said.

For a start those stats are for Asia and Africa two continents pretty well know for a lack of tolerance of
homosexuality and also in the case of African a continent know not only for inactive use of condoms but the positive rejection of them, hardly a good test case.

Secondly it's about infection rates not likelyhood of getting the infection based on sexuality. Importantly that report doesn't mention gender at all so not particularly relevant to R1Geezers point.

This data is a little older but I would imagine the trend is still generally the same....

HC4361- I understand what you are trying to say about Pakistan. But my own experience is that most of the diseases there are caught rather due to blood transfusion, lack of sterilisation of dental and medical equipments especially in poor areas and lot more. I am not saying that if you are circumcised then you would not catch any STD. Of course chances are less. Then there re other factors without a doubt. And sex here and there is right at the top because you do not know what that person has in store for you.

Yes Ethel it can be spread from men to women that way, the main way the men get it is the up hill gardening method, either receiveing or serving to use the Tennis vernacular. If they didn't have it they couldn't give it to women. There is also a preponerence in Africa for usage of the back door so that also puts the male "server" at risk in those cases. Like I said, it is virtually impossible for men to catch it in normal sex.

Off topic; alot of men in asian states enjoy a bit of backdoor action with each other even though they claim not to be gay.

A mate of mine is in the British forces and spent time in Afghan at Camp Bastion where he was stationed right next to the Afghan armies quarters.
