I have just received an email from a friend with photos of the muslim protesters in London on a 'peace rally'. Their placards state things like 'behead those that insult Islam' and 'Europe be warned your 9/11 is on its way' and 'exterminate those that insult Islam"

Frankly this terrifies me. And I know this is going to stir up some strong comments on here from you all - but where is this going to stop? Why is it they can incite hatred against the people that built this nation?

I cant help but feel there is a simmering, underlying resentment about to explode - either them or the non-muslims I am not sure.

But it really scares me - it scares me that I am not allowed to voice my opinions for fear of retaliation and it scares me that they would rather see me dead than accept I have different views from theirs.

Whatever happened to live and let live?

I received those photos as well and you are right, they are very alarming. I do not understand why these idiot were not arrested for inciting unrest and murder.

Could you for one second imagine what would happen if someone would hold similar signs up in a Muslim country decrying their religion?

This Society is bending over backward to accommodate all beliefs and this is how they repay us. It is time to put a stop to this madness and ban any doctrine that advocates death to those who do not follow.
I 'm afraid it is a case of the minority angry/brainwashed/anarchistic minority who always seem to make the headlines.

The VAST majority of people in the world are quite happy to live and let live and until we ALL rise up and stop the loonies from taking over the asylum then it will continue.

Sadly the militants have the will, determination and bloody-mindedness to blindly follow their cause (including acquiring weapons and explosives) and rather more sinisterly there are people who are profiting from this situation - including people from the UK and their "allies".

I also notice a marked lack of reaction from Government and police alike to stamp down hard on any non-white protesters and I wonder if they are too scared to "offend" anybody by having pictures of muslims being arrested shown on the news / in the papers.

The pictures of the protests outraged me too, especially as the soldiers only go where they are sent, and do a difficult and usually dangerous job in trying circumstances but the restraint shown by the policemen surrounding the protest was admirable - I am not sure if my anger would have been curtailed.

One of the (many) great things about the UK is the (so-called) freedom of speech but if you wish this to continue it must apply to ALL whether or not you find someone elses view distasteful or dangerous.

I also think, like yourself, that there is an undercurrent of unrest bubbling beneath the surface but the Government is standing back and hoping nothing will happen (as usual) but if (or when) it does there will be much hand-ringing and blame apportioning as usual.

We need a REALLY strong leader to rise from the pack and take this country by the scruff of the neck and give it a good shake up but I caanot see this happening as long as Parliament continues to be a career choice for some rather than a will to undertake change which is effectively
(I.ve started so i'll finish)

change which is effectively blocked by the current party system and old boys network.

Rant over - sleep well all!
Alas, I fear that our legislators seldom read the posts on AB.
Nosha123 and wildwood, do send your views to your MPs.

I admire the words of the Australian Prime Minister when he speaks of his nation and fellow countrymen... Even if you dont necessarily agree with his views - you have to appreciate his brave outspoken words. He states that Australia has been built by Australians, and will maintain THEIR culture and that if you choose to live there you are expected to accept that.

Much in the same way as when we holidayed in Thailand we respected their customs and traditions and did not want to do or say anything that would be deemed offensive in their land.

Why is it this minority of young male extremists cannot treat us with the respect we are expected to apparently give to them!
In my book you have to earn my respect - and frankly they dont have it from me! Just disgusting!
Speach made by Kevin Rudd Prime minister of Australia

Rudd angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques. Quote:

'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians. '

'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom'

'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.

'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

I dont know that sending views to our MPS would help - they are all too spineless to make a stand and make a change and to stamp out this disease that is spreading.

They are fearful or an uprising - and they are fearful for being branded intolerant of minorities!

Shame on them....

I cant help but think if this behaviour continues - the British people will cause an uprising of their own - and it will all get very seriously out of hand.

Surely there is only so much of this hatred a nation can take before they are pushed to the edge?

It really does worry me....
The simple answer is Yes - they can.

Islam is the most dangerous thing that has ever 'happened' to this country. Generations of Brits further on are going to curse their forefathers for an appalling inability to heed the ever-increasing danger signs.
tolerate minorities. We brits will soon be the minoities will they show us the same toleration?
This is political activism with a racial/religious overtone.
Do you accept that Asians born here are British?
This is part of the historical (hysterical) problem no matter what "they" do they are viewed as foreigners.
You have to deafeat the idea and the ideology by argument, you have to face the "threat" whether percieved or real by demonstrating on the streets in support of our politically secular model.
Are you willing to do that?
No, it appears.
It appears that you wish to bypass parliament and start a rising of your own.
Although I agree with the sentiment that being an M.P has become a carreer choice, we do have the beginnings of a ruling caste.
What I find bemusing is that we faced I.R.A terrorists who desired to break up the Union.
I see no real threat from these Muslim radicals, because Muslims themselves don't like them.
Many Muslim women do not follow their ideology, and many Muslim men don't either.
This radicalism is based on a minority interpretation of Islam that is as equally divisive to it's own Muslim peoples, Dervishes, Shias and Kasmiris in particular.
P.S.
Australia was built by the British, the original Australian culture was destroyed 200 and odd years ago by us.

Do I accept that muslims born in Britain are British? - of course I do.. I have grown up in multi-culture England... I went to school with blacks, asians, chinese, and whites.
Am I trying to start an uprising.. a white female 34 year old?? Of course not! How ridiculous.
My statement is that I fear the behaviour of these radicals - and they are a disease eating into our society. Deliberately recruiting young men to join their task.
Can you honestly not say it is offensive and upsetting to see and hear that these people want to behead you and I simply because we do not share their beliefs?
Thats is called an uprising!
My statement ends with why can we not live and let live - not a radicalist statement - or one filled with hate.. more a plea that we can all live together side by side without hatred.
As for a minority - well yes they clearly are - since most muslims do not agree with them. My concern is - how many of them are there... a minority could be hundreds of thousands or hating extremists.. in this country or the next.
Yes, I find it offensive, it offends me when people talk about this being a Christian country and in the same breath rejecting Christ.
Martin Luther King, said that the idea of his protests was to create a problem and let the powers deal with it. It's not the protests we remember today but the police reaction to them, I think in Birmingham (Alabama) the police quietly bundled them away, no fuss, no drama, long forgotten now.
We have a parliament, you have an M.P they are the people you speak to for a reaction, the sad truth is voter apathy is everywhere, even here.
I see these posts and all they offer is heat not light, the matter we need to address is not neccessarily multiculturism but inclusivity.
When we're all happy and indifferent to inter race and inter faith marriages we will have succeeded.
And yes that message does go out to minority peoples within this land.
What I'm trying to suggest is that the need is for calm heads identifying the problems and formulating answers, not reactionary knee jerk sound bites, the need now (if democracy is under threat) is to be more democratic, get out and vote.
Even better encourage others to get out and vote.

I appreciate your rational perspective to this discussion and agree that we need to search for light and the solution rather than exacerabate the problem with angry responses - that is the nature of an educated and responsible approach.
Many people in this country lack the patience and tolerance to find this approach the answer.
I agree with QuizmasterG - its admirable to see the restraint and professionalism of our police officers in that situation.
However - I do not believe that writing to my local MP will ever achieve anything! I do vote and so does my husband -
But our voices will not come to anything unless we stand in solidarity to speak out. A single voice in the distance will never be heard.

Carrac, if you believe that was a speech made by Kevin Rudd then you're even stupider than I think you are already.

Every few months, it gets posted by web mongs who change the name and the country and then cut and paste the rest. Have a look online if you don't believe me.

I don't think a country like Australia which has supplanted Aboriginal culture with its own, newer, foreign culture would make a speech quite that idiotic.
You have a voice, use it, you have a vote, exercise it, tell them you won't vote for them until they prodce a coherent response to your concerns. Nothing like the threat of reduncancy to gain a politician's attention.
If one man shouts the person next to them hears, if two men shout the person down the end of the street hears and so on.
Martin Luther King talked of supplanting the politics of thee to the politics of thou.
It begins with ourselves, if you are so concerned about the future of this country act.
In the 1930s Britain was awash with political activism, men and women went to Spain to fight facism, we need that mentality back, we need a voice that crosses the religious and racial divides, that is not interested in partisan party politics, one that focuses on the things that tie us together rather than the things that set us apart and we need it to stand up for our political model, our social model and the belief in equality and free expression.
That's how you silence them.
Here's where we certainly agree, I see no such movement at the moment and I feel it's incumbent upon the main political parties to work together and pool their resources to bring such a movement about.
An 'A' political social movement in defence of the status quo, now that is a radical and revolutionary idea.
