Which is correct?

They "plead" guilty or they "pleaded" guilty?

In England we would say pleaded, but in N.America and Scotland they say pled.
I don't like pled, glad we don't use it here.

entered a guilty plea might be better... anyway, Brits handle 'bled' okay rather than bleeded, so I guess they could cope with pled if they had to. TrishK7 is right
As an English teacher, I must agree with the comment above, avoid the word altogether and re-word it as 'they entered a guilty plea'.
...although there is absolutely no reason to avoid the word 'pleaded' in the UK. It is 100% correct.
