Probably for the same reason that French people think they are, Americans think they are, Greeks think they are, and so on ad infinitum. I'd like to meet someone of any nationality who expresses the opinion that they are inferior to people of some other nationality.
That's why we are called ,GREAT BRITAIN

Because we are superior. lol
Hi snow_storm, in my opinion there appears to be English people who have been brought up from generations to think that they not it all and like you've said superior to everyone else.

The problem is they have not been educated to understand that there other races, nationality's and religions in the world which are all equal in humanity.

What we must remember is that being English isn't all about superiority, pride, the Union Jack etc.
Its about understanding other cultures, countries, languages and religions and how people have arrievd to where they are. Understanding other's history and life will help individuals not to be judgemental, racist and xenophobic.
Sorry about the spelling mistakes!
sonak tried to send a message to your post and my computer went down . stop putting up with that crap from them next door contact your housing association again and get them to do something.
It's because of the British Empire. Look how many nations they've invaded and conquered and when they've stripped the country of all it's resources, they dump them and kindly give independence. so that's why England and the English has the right to feel superior
velvette........ stripped the country of all it's resources..........
south africa, diamonds?..rhodesia ( zimbabwe ) that was ok till mugabee started to kick the whites out. there is 2 from the top of my head....... STRIPPED....
Thanks very much 34years yes we've contacted the housing association once again, they said they will look into it with their leagal advisor's what ever that means!
there are laws in place to stop this from happening to you. let the housing sort them out

Just like South Africa, Zimbabwe didn't always have Caucasians there. Under Ian Smith, the blacks there were the underdogs and still are under Mugabee. He is tyrannical and deserves to be ousted.

You really have to consider all the things the British did, apparently with little conscience. Such as their occupation of India. And also during slavery and in the caribbean. Not to mention more recently in the 1970's with the depopulation of the tiny island of Diego Garcia, where the inhabitants were evicted from there by the British, so the island could be sold to the Americans, to be used as an airbase. I think the Americans paid Britain something like $1.

Because the English are a driving force within the world, (well they were before they became the 51st state) it's natural that such a nation would prevail and be strong, which is commedable, as Britain is a pretty small island, compared to many other places.

sonak,
english isnt about the union(jack)flag as you state,

a fully fledged superior english person does not regard that flag as representing england,

being proud of your birth country is no wrong thing,

misplaced pride in the case of some countries e.g france

If you think the English suffer from a superiority complex, try the Chinese for a measured even-handed approach NOT.

At the end of the day we all think we're the best even if we learn to be englishly discreet about it.
Goodness me, there's a few people with chips on their shoulders here!
To helpmetoo - Shall I say the England flag then
St George's Cross?! That is what I meant! ;0)
Any anti-English sentiment can be put down simply to a case of the small dog biting the bigger one.
