Village names(Tye or Tey)

Not sure what site to use, but I want to know why some villages/towns, have Tye or Tey in their name, what does this mean? I can't find it on Google or in any dictionary.,

when I lived in Colchester, a friend told me that the "Tey" in the name of the neighbouring village of Marks Tey was old Saxon for "Enclosure".

Tye, is Middle English for "pasture."

Ty or Tye is a house or homestead in Welsh.
