Feminist Translation of Qur'an
Muslim feminist Iranian-American is soon to publish a new English translation of the Qur'an.
blog.http://www.thefword.org.uk/blog/2007/august

The translation will focus on the exclusion of script that serves to oppress women; particularly the choice of whether to use words that can mean beat or go away. Thus men could leave their wives rather than beat them.

Criticism by male clerics is to question if the scholar has sufficient knowledge of classical Arabic.

Is it likely that not only someone who is black, but also a women could have the necessary intelligence.

Yes, Very likely.
I suggest you ask MrBen5, Doc Spock, Legend et al for their views. They are not usually backwards at coming forwards with their mysoginistic and borderline/racist comments.

A darkie !! and a bird !! perhaps at one and the same time ?!? Well, I mean.............it's not natural, is it ?

well, I dunno, do you think a woman could understand the absolute necessity of suicide bombing? I find it hard to process through my brain, but I number great age among my many infirmities, as well as being a sort of brown colour (in summer).
Its hardly surprising that a females translation of the book is one of peace, is it?

I have always thought its not the religion that is the problem but the nutters who use it in the name of violence. I am sure there are plenty of muslim men out there who would welcome the new translations.

Of course women have the intelligence Ruby, as one of the most intelligent women on here Ruby you are a testament to that.
I think the fact a person, man or woman, wants to change such a barbaric book in the first place and simply not wash their hands of it, shows they are fairly stupid.

It will be like boiling cyanide infected water to rid it of his poision, when a fresh bottle of Evian is close at hand.

So this bird will get rid of the sexist bits. What about the parts that advocate violence to non-muslims?

The parts that advocate child sexual abuse?

The parts that advocate the killing of western societies?

She should rewrite the whole ruddy koran!!!!

Shadow Man

She should rewrite the whole ruddy koran
- Why bother when you have just rewritten it.
No. We're too busy washing our hair and baking.
lol China

tut tut Shandowman, I have secret wishes that you are a muslim on a big wind up
I find this whole "stars" business and ruby27's entire attitude most odd. I expect little else from a man-hating bra-burner, but come on???

You are almost implying that the koran is sexist. Surely that is against your grain!!! Yet when it is criticised, moreover the whole ruddy religion, you probably start thinking The Shadow man is just being racist again.

Well here's news for you fair bird. YOU CAN'T BE A FEMINIST AND SUPPORT THE KORAN!!!!!!

It is like being a ham eating Jew, A beef eating Hindu or a divorced Catholic. The two are not conducive.

So explain to me, if a females brain is capable of such, and you are not too busy mending socks or cooking, how can you support feminism and the koran??

Hogwash and weey pants, the whole argument!!!!
How has she supported the Koran?
Hmmm, there is only one koran and i think its insulting to every muslim to suggest otherwise...
As Churchill said "those who do not support us are against us"

I use answers from other threads. It's called a memory, something women usually have a very good one of.
Only when its because a man has said we looked fat
It's nothing to worry your pretty little head about Ruby. Now run along and make us a nice cup of tea.

AB has once again shown me I should never be overly confident. I posted this question with the expectation that because the subject matter was a combination of the Muslim religion and the intellectual ability of women, it would be grounds for the most extreme of views to be aired and shared. I anticipated at the least there would have been some adverse reaction to the link being feminist, someone questioning the reliability/impartiality. I was looking forward to becoming impassioned in my defence of feminism against the oppression of patriarchy. This was to be a platform where I could demonstrate the superiority of my opinions to the denigration of those who disagreed. What do I find, Shadow Man sticking to his guns in quite a restrained way and some sort of irrelevant posting by Mr B.
Deprived or what? I was looking forward to have an excuse for a feminist rant. Oh well, back to baking and making of tea.

On reflection my star allocation was petty. I awarded them on the basis of:-
points for agreeing with me
points for being funny
points for being sister
As you would realise this excluded you. However on reflection I consider you are worthy of a star. You should receive points for being steadfast in your opinion. True in regarding women and non whites, I think your opinions are unfounded and demonstrate a meanness of spirit and kindness. In addition, your steadfastness can be perceived as anachronism. But, you are not a daffodil that sways in the wind. You are if nothing robust in your opinions.

By way whilst I do not believe in any of the religious fairy stories, I accept all people have a right to believe in what ever religious faith they have as long as this does not cause harm to others. Sadly this isn't true of Abrahmic religions generally.
No, they are precluded by being born femail.
End of story.
Anyway, where's that cup of tea ?
