Temping for an employer, not getting the job fulltime - how do I cope?

I recently started temporary working for a local college department. I started part-time in Nov and when the full time administrative person quit I step in to fill her role. I have been at this job less than 2 week and the department head told me she was considering some one else for the job. I am hurt and confused and maybe a little relieved? I still have 2 weeks to go before the new person starts. How do I get through this?
