in Belfast we sang

went to the doctors and couldn't get a seat

Guys, thank you for the link, lines and another few new words. I still don't know what "malink" means though. Tell me more about those songs. Are they traditional? Or modern?

What about the Slovakian "malinky", meaning "young"?

Can you give me a synonym for "skipping" used in this context?

Skipping is what girls do in UK school playgrounds. Two hold a skipping-rope and swing it round in circles while a third stands 'under' it and jumps in time, over the rope, while they all sing. Bit tricky to describe...!
Malinky could be a derivation of the russian word malinki meaning small.
