All this hype regarding BLM and black history month I have recently noticed that 8 out of 10 TV adverts seem to have a disproportionate non white presence.

Just a casual observation.

The television companies are making a concerted effort to encourage 'diversity' - even in their choice of employees. Viewers would have to be blind - or in denial - not to notice.

I don't think it's necessarily a matter of noticing vs not noticing. More that many people aren't bothered by it and see it as part of ongoing changes in society and how the media presents those changes.

..........and many ARE bothered about it, that's the scary part. I'm not being purposefully 'woke' on this issue, and it makes me very angry when some people of colour play the race card at every opportunity but, noticing and being concerned because a person of colour is selling fairy liquid is a bit troubling.

If you live in many parts of London or in other large cities, you will think the proportion you see on TV adverts is actually an under representation.

Agree Naomi. Pasta hit the nail on the head. It will all level out and that will be good.

It is odd, in my opinion, that anyone would even notice.
I'd have thought that "8 out of 10" people on a bus in a typical large British city might be non-white. And I doubt if that is because the bus company is promoting diversity.
Mind you some people would complain about that too :-)

Well I am neither blind, nor in denial, and I can say hand on heart I had not noticed that adverts were using actors of colour more than usual.

There aren't many Blacks or Asians where I live. At that rate, I should be horrified by the number on telly.

I am sure you are right New Judge. But perhaps people in areas where there are few people of colour will notice, but not in a judgemental way. And I'm sure Sparkly was not being judgemental or sitting counting adverts, as has been suggested. People are so ready to jump in with accusations.

Amazing how many 'people of colour' live in a tiny village in the Yorkshire Dales in a certain soap. I agree with the comment re adverts too, nothing to do with racism, more to do with the woke brigade not letting me make up my own mind about their products. I feel sorry for white actors who must be having a hard time getting past auditions.

And what of all the Black and Asian actors who previously supported themselves waiting tables because they couldn't get work?

Same here Pasta. Probably because you don't see many people of colour in agriculture. We have an influx of Eastern Europeans in our few factories, but notably very very people of colour. But quite a few clinicians and families are slowly moving down to our rural area.

What I have noticed in adverts and drama is that there are far more mixed race partnerships. I haven't been looking out for this, but I have noticed!
