Is it rude to refer to a lady as "Doll"?

Is it OK to refer to a lady you know as "Doll"?

How would you feel if someone called you "Doll"?

I've been told to, "Be a doll and (whatever)" and although I don't particularly care to "be a doll" I usually go ahead and (whatever) anyway.

It's odd isn't is clover.. People want to ban the word "Manipulative"??? LOL it's not gender specific. Ironically, it's quite manipulative to ban the word manipulative.

Also, i mean.. banning the word hormonal? The list is hysterical. Oops! Another word to ban!
The only people I know outside the US who call people ‘Doll’ are Jews.
Naomi - on here I would never revert to the vernacular but if sitting having a coffee together I might say, " Can I get you anything else love?"
I know you would not take offence.
maybe its just me, I call my partner Babe, if I cant remember someones name straight away I will ask "are you ok duck" Maybe a Leicester thing?
Wouldn’t bother me lol
wouldn't bother me generally.
neither does calling me love, hen, duck, sweetie.

Talking of wanting names/words banned, California no longer have manholes or manhole covers. I think they are now called service hatches or summat. Strange people.
Plenty Scots use "doll" when speaking about or to a woman.
funny how lots of Scots call women 'doll'

Of all the Scots I've known in my lifetime, so far, none of them have used the word 'doll' when talking to or about a woman.
I think, like any use of language, it's all about context and intent.

You can't generalise about the use of language, it is entirely based on the intention behind its use, so someone using the word 'Doll' in one context may be being affectionate, and another may be being aggressive.

The word is not moveable, but the context and intent always are.
Odd that Theland would call me ‘love’, assuming that would be acceptable to me, but wouldn’t dream of addressing his female doctor similarly because he’s ‘always respecful’. Not respectful to
me, clearly. Just patronising. No, Theland, I wouldn’t take kindly to your dubious terms of endearment.
