Bit puzzling this one as there should only be one water input on an electric shower, that is a cold input.

The water passes through a heater element/heat exchanger which is governed by a thermostat. the screeching noise would lead me to suspect that air has gotten into the system and needs flushing.

Its simple to do, turn of the electric  supply to the shower and switch the external control to full flow and full cold and allow cold water to flow through for a good 2minutes then try it with the power on that should solve the noise problem.

Are you talking about a power shower here ? I.e. one with a pump drawing both hot and cold water ?
Lime scale build up on Impellar maybe.
