When did those big Ferris Wheels become part of the traditional Christmas decoration of cities? Why?

It came from Germany where they have the Christingle Markets. Ther was often a carousel as well as the stalls.

Thanks carolegif, so there is a reason. Could never see the connection between fairgrounds and Christmas.
Fairgrounds are traditionally linked to celebrations. Personally, I love to walk through a fairground with all the music and bustle.

Good point, wildwood. I do quite like the vibe of a market in the week before Christmas. But a Ferris wheel on a raw November day?
Since when was November thought of as Christmas? :-)
November? The shops would have us believe that Christmas was imminent from August onward!! I feel so sorry for youngsters who must think Christmas can only be a day or two away, once they see decorations and lights going up.
