Has this woman got a point, is having an insulting comment made regarding one's hair colour a form of racism?

No, gingers are not a race.

Blondes also get the micky taken out of them.

She has every right to be offended though.
I think there a thread on this over the weekend

This may be the thread I was thinking of
A Ginger whinger, as we once nicknamed one of the guys in our football team.

Insulting? Yes.

Racist? In no way whatsoever.
It's not racism, but it was insulting and completely unnecessary. I would have thought at the very least the member of staff would get a warning, and maybe they did.
Extremely insulting. Very unprofessional...but unless ginger has suddenly become a race - not racist.
Insulted for being a ginger? Received £150 compen, she's got a right result there and needs to stop whingeing now

i would be offended, stupidity comes in all guises. The bank employee should get a slap on the wrist.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if were it suddenly to become illegal to take the p!ss out of a fat lass, especially them ones what don't sweat much!
Or those in leggings so tight you can read their lips.
This lady was on the radio this morning and said she used to play football and the other players called her Ginge. When asked who came up with that nickname she said "I Did". So if the bank employee had just called her Ginge, it would have been OK.
I'd bet that Mark (47) doesn't arrive home with an opened pay packet.
I call my OH 'Ginge'. That's not offensive. What is offensive is implying that being ginger is ugly, ugly enough that she'd be grateful her child is not ginger.
This reminds me of a former teaching colleague, a large ginger-haired lady whose presence intimidated the children, but who was really one of the sweetest, kindest ladies you could ever hope to meet. One morning she came into school and said that she had been elevated to the peerage. When I asked for an explanations, she said, "Come outside". Sure enough, when I looked at the school wall someone had chalked in very large letters, "Ginger is a count!"
So what if she is offended. Get over it. This country is turning into a bunch of limp daisies. I called a woman in McDonalds the other week a fat odious cow full of whale blubber (she had been swearing and was spitting onto the floor). Do I care? Not one jot.
Again, your comparisons are rubbish. This lady went to talk about her mortgage.
"I called a woman in McDonalds the other week a fat, odious cow full of whale blubber..."

Excuse me, but how did you manage to distinguish her from all the other fat, odious cows full of whale blubber in McDonald's?
> I called a woman in McDonalds the other week a fat odious cow full of whale blubber (she had been swearing and was spitting onto the floor)

How is that relevant?
