Thank you Zhukov. Wonderful, in the 1st part of Also Sprach I can always see the Apes in 2001 using rocks to make tools.
If I were Simon Rattle, I think I'd be on the phone to my hairdresser.
jno Please can we have an explanation of your contribution ???

Ron.

Okay, seriously, it would be the Tannhauser overture.

This clip is Furtwangler, because I think Furtwangler "understood" Wagner;s music like no other conductor. Sadly, there's only a photo of him.

This piece gives me absolute goosebumps every time when it gets to the bit at 2:21 (in this recording).

I'd love to building the towering, spiralling strings with one hand, while firmly pacing the horns with the other.

Conducting brilliance ... and Furtwangler did it best.

(not Simon Rattle, sorry)

God, I've gone all watery eyed listening to this recording. It is just such a great, great piece of music.

Oops ...

I'd love to "build" ... !
Ron, I like a bit of fun with my music. Enthusiastic amateurism is good; I do not demand that everyone be a professional. (Sir Simon might disagree, of course.)
Postdog, if you put the link in the top panel ("Enter YouTube link Here...") it should work. But omit the "Media URL" gubbins.
jno ...

I've got the wrong picture.

The picture says "Portsmouth Sinfonia".

The sound is obviously "Portsmouth Prep, Lower School Orchestra"
