as God is a man-made concept, I believe that those who believe in a supreme being have their God and their God gives them guidance and support, just as Frank gave Donnie Darko guidance.
If God gives you strength then there is something there to give you that strength, even if it is just in your head.
So I don't believe in the common idea of God, but I do believe each person's own God and that that God can be incredibly powerful.

Yes God gives great strength to the believers. It must have taken quite a bit of determination for the Hebrews to hack every man woman and child to death in over thirty tribes that lived in their "Promised Land".

It wouldn't be easy for anyone in their right mind.

a single thought can be dangerous, to have a single, evil thought supported , or at least perceived to be supported, by 'likeminded' people, makes it even more dangerous. This is how religion can be, in itself, dangerous. It created divisions.

I know, but to have that evil thought supported by many to whom you relate, is dangerous.
In the same way any kind of extremism is dangerous, not just religious. If you hold a radical belief, and you're on your own, you're less likely to act upon it than you are if you have thousands of backers.
If you can then, somehow, justify it as right in the eyes of a supreme being then you're very much more likely to act upon it.
I appreciate these descriptions are more akin to radical / extremist actions but you can equate to everyday acts also. Naturally it's the evil acts which are dangerous, religion just seems to magnify things in the same way a very religious person with good intentions may go more all out in order to seek praise from their God.
