What does this mean?

I've noticed a load of my friends have suddenly been using # on fb and twitter and I'm wondering what it means? Its usually before a random title

e,g, #justsayin or #jetlagged or #athome

Don't know feelap - cos in my world a # means a fracture of a bone.

I expect they are using an application that allows them to use Twitter and FB at the same time. On Twitter you use hash tags which is what they are. They don't really work on Facebook.

the hash tag means you are marking a key word - your post will come up in a search of that word/words

In my world, it means "number", like #6.
