Someones been watching Ultimate Force ;-), I don't really know if they are now female soldiers in the SAS, but in the past times it was simply based on stereotypical attitude, for an SAS soldier. women cannot physically cope with the demands intended.

To my knowledge there are no female serving personnel, nor have there ever been.

The only special forces unit in the British Army I know of that have had serving female personnel is a unit known as 14 Int, or 14 Intelligence and Security Company to give it its full title.

Some years ago the SAS put a stop to an IRA plot to blow up something in Gibraltar. One of the SAS members was indeed female.

BigDogsWang - the incident to which you refer involved unarmed IRA members being shot dead without being given warning by security forces.

Also a bomb planted giving the 1st Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment no warning by the IRA on Gibraltar.   A car used by the bombers was found two days after the killings containing 140lb of Semtex with a device timed to go off during the changing of the guard.
