I am thinking of moving to Lambeth is it nice?

I am moving to London for the first time. I like nice areas like Maida vale, Bayswater. I do not know Lambeth.Ive seen a picture of the flat im going to see and it looks nice on a quiet residential road. Its a place in a street of houses between Brockwell Park and Brixton hill road.
also how long would it take take to get into central london from here?
Is this area safe? Is it rough? Is there nice cafes shops etc?
