For great food go to the Bar Roma, 39a Queensferry Street (at the West End of Princes Street). We always eat there when in Edinburgh. Yummy!
the castle and royal mile
The Grassmarket which is at the back of the Castle -nice pubs and shops.
Depends what you like. The Castle, Holyrood Palace, The Scottish Parliament building are all worth a look.
There are usually guided walks which are very entertaining, especially the ones that take you under the Bridges to see the old dwelling s there. Mary King's Close off the High Street if you like ghosts. The Museum on Chambers St?George IV Bridge is also good. All of these places are within walking distance of Waverley station. (You have to like hills and stairs, though.)
Loads of pubs everywhere.
Have a lovely time.
The Scottish Parliamnet Building is worth a visit -in fact best just to jump on and off one of the sightseeing buses.Have fun-Ive been there twice in the last 3wks socially and had a blast !!
When you're on the Royal Mile http://www.stuckonsco...mary-kings-close.html
Oh and don't forget to climb Arthur's Seat
we went on the bus tour and you can get on and off as many times as you want that day, we also went on the ghost walk to the tombs of the mckenzie ghost in the cemetery.

Edinburgh Zoo - but it is built into what feels like a mountain when you are climbing it.
I visited Holyrood Palace in 1973. One of the "attractions" are the apartments of Mary Queen of Scots including the spot where Rizzio was stabbed 57 times. There was/is a brass plaque on the floor marking the spot where he died, and in one of the window alcoves was a stain which they said was his blood where he was first stabbed.

However, the guide told us they move the plaque around to prevent too much wear taking place to the floor at one spot, and they keep having to add "blood" to the stain to make it visible.

The palace is still worth a visit though, and I recommend you take a bus ride out to the Forth Bridge too.

The Royal Yatch Brittania is berthed at nearby Leith docks as a tourist attraction.
You should do the old reekie ghost walk (not sure of the spelling). Also get up early and go for a walk around the city. It is really beautiful and even better when there are not many people around. The bus tour is pretty good and interesting and it takes you to all parts of the city. Have a good time!
